Ronnie "Shorty" Glen Barnett, a beloved community figure, passed away February 17, 2023, at age 73. Shorty, known for his warm personality, made a lasting impact on the residents of Dripping Springs.
He joined the Navy at the age 17 and deployed to Vietnam in 1969. Following his naval service, Shorty returned to Texas where he met and married his wife, Pat. They moved to Dripping Springs in 1985 and raised three sons. An active member of the Sunset Canyon Baptist Church, Shorty worked on the church and preschool staff for 17 years.
As a founding and active member of American Legion Post 290 and VFW Post 2933, Shorty took great pride in being a veteran. He was also instrumental in the development of Patriot’s Hall of Dripping Springs—a permanent retreat and resource base for veterans of all ages and military branches to connect and find support.
His legacy will live forever as a brave and dedicated community hero.
