We had the chance to sit down with Rebecca to talk about her art, painting, style, and passions. Here’s what she had to say.
Q: Can you tell us the story of how you got started painting?
A: When I was young I would sketch and draw all of the time. I lived abroad with my parents and there was a person in our community who saw my talent and asked me, “Do you paint?” I had never painted before, but I answered them with confidence: “Yes!” They said, “If I buy you supplies, will you paint something for me?” I remember coming home one day to a wooden box on my bed filled with a starter set of oil paints, and completely lighting up from the inside. That was my first painting, and I never stopped. I was obsessed. I tried other mediums, but oil is the only one that's ever felt right. I fell so deeply in love with the texture, the medium, the smell, the process, where my mind goes when I'm painting, the emotions—it's an experience for me that it feels aligned with more than just my interests. It's my soul. It's my heart. It's my dreams. It wasn’t until 5 years ago that I began to paint as my career. Something just clicked: I realized I am always going to be painting and I am always going to be an artist. That’s when I really began to give painting professionally my all.
Q: Who are your paintings for? What do you envision when you are creating something new?
A: There is a lot of nostalgia in it for me when I am painting nature scapes, because I grew up around so much nature. The color and texture come from that inspiration, but when I paint I also think about the homes where I visualize my art hanging. I love interior design, aesthetics, and the thought of someone bringing my soul to their walls. When people find me at art shows or online, there is this little energy, this excitement—like I found my people and my people found me. My clients are people who understand the power and impact of having a beautiful space and the energetic frequency that flows through their productivity and creativity. I like to think about the ways I can communicate a frequency of tranquility, peace, and magnetic energy that will help someone wake up in their home to be the best and most creative version of themselves.
Q: What would you say is your style as an artist?
A: I believe that art changes as we grow and learn. My art today is different from my art two years ago and that’s one of the many joys of being an artist—the growth and evolution as I learn more and as I understand more about what I love. That said, the way I have come to articulate my style of work is contemporary impressionism. I envision my art in contemporary interior spaces, so I aim to depict my art in fresh, modern, minimal ways. My main focus is on color palettes. The main response I receive from people who see my work is that it radiates peace and tranquility. That’s the power of color, and why my color palette is so important to me. I use texture to create excitement and energy, while the color exudes harmony.
Q: How does someone who is interested get your art into their home?
A: People find me in all kinds of ways—art shows, online, or through word of mouth. Anyone who loves one of my pieces can purchase it from me. I also work one-on-one with clients to create custom pieces for their home if something they loved wasn’t the right size or composition. We work together to create something perfect, infused with my passion but with the custom elements they are looking for.
Q: Beyond commissioning art, what’s on the horizon for Rebecca Robb Fine Art?
A: What I am most excited about right now is that I have begun offering full-home curation services as the Founder and Creative Director of Artistic Atelier, my luxury full-home custom art curation experience. This is for people who really understand the true value of art when remodeling their home and want to create a fresh, updated look. My eye for aesthetics and design mean I can work with my clients to re-curate meaningful art that they already own while incorporating new custom art created by me, designing a connected and cohesive living environment. There’s magic that happens when the art and the furnishings and the space all come together. When my clients get to see what I envisioned for them for the first time, when they get to feel the energy and magnetism that the curated art brings to their space, I live for that moment.
Q: Do you have any advice for art buyers looking for a piece to compliment their home?
A: What I would say above all, is don’t wait. If you love a piece of art or want to commission one for your home, earlier is better. It’s sort of like when people try to get their finances in order before talking to a financial advisor, when they clean before the cleaner comes, or feel they need to get a little bit in shape before starting to go to the gym. With my art, you don’t need to wait until you feel your home is ready. I can help you get it there in a way that is aligned with you and your family and that infuses energy that will impact you every day moving forward. Incorporating art that you love into your life is truly an investment in your future.
