Beyond The Swatch

Ever try on an outfit that just doesn’t feel right?

At Called By Colors, Maura Griesse believes shopping should be less about guessing and more about knowing your colors. The majority of the time, it’s not the fit of a clothing item that’s the problem; it’s the color. That’s where color analysis comes in. When you understand which colors flatter your unique undertone and how to pair them, you shop with confidence, waste less, and build a wardrobe that truly works for you.

From photography to graduating with an art degree, Called By Colors owner Maura Griesse has seen just about every type of color industry there is. After gaining immense knowledge from past experiences, Maura knew this job would be something that would come naturally for her. Being an artist can come in many different forms, and without a doubt, color analysis takes a creative mind. With the recent opening of the small, local business in February 2025, Griesse has seen herself grow, along with the confidence in her clients. “There’s a 45-hour educational course you can go through to enhance your skills," says Maura. She also followed a few social media accounts that boosted her interest in starting this type of business, which ultimately helped her take the leap of faith to launch it. Since then, Maura has taught herself some of her skills through practice and personal development. Called By Colors has now gained attention across all of NWA and is evolving each month. Maura has goals she hopes to reach this year, and additions she would like to add to her services.

Let’s talk about how to master personal colors with clothing—and never second-guess a purchase again. So, what is Color Analysis? In fashion terms, this is selecting precise clothing colors that complement your skin tone, eyes, and hair color, along with finding what aligns best with your mood and style.

Knowing what you look best in will also make you feel best. It's the difference between wearing clothes and wearing yourself with confidence.

Your skin undertone is the secret weapon for choosing the right colors. It's not about how light or dark your skin is—it's about the subtle hue underneath the surface. If you have a warm undertone, you will look best in earthy tones. Some examples of these are olive green, terracotta, and warm peach. If you have a cool undertone, you will shine in silver and icy blues.

Another key step is building a color palette within your closet. Knowing your tones makes shopping a breeze. Instead of grabbing random items, build a palette of intentional, mixable pieces. To do this, choose a neutral base that best fits your undertone. Then, add a couple of signature colors you favor and feel most like yourself in.

Once you have gone through the color review process, you will be given a digital palette of the best color choices for you. Before completing any clothing purchases, make sure to check your easy-to-use palette.

There are many advantages to having color analysis done for yourself or your children. When you know what you physically look best in, your mental and emotional well-being can greatly improve. Your mind, soul, and body will all be in harmony. Maura Griesse added that she has seen the anxiety in many of her clients decrease thanks to a color analysis examination. The insecurities that we all battle can be diminished by just a few color swatch modifications. Shopping can also become faster and more effortless when you know what you don’t need to wear and what you should focus on.

Called By Colors promises to help you find the hues that highlight your natural beauty and match your lifestyle. Whether you need a color consultation, shopping support, or a custom palette, they are there to help you show up in style.
