For Dee Dee Lear, Owner of Delaney’s Design, modern means style and sophistication. In fact, she recently designed an entire 7,800-square-foot home in grayscale.
“The clients’ design aesthetic is modern. We introduced the idea of using black to add the level of sophistication they were seeking — to break up all of the white and add interest and dimension.”
Dee Dee says when she began the project, the home was custom builder-grade and did not reflect her clients’ style or personality. Dee Dee transformed the home into her clients’ dream space by creating a color palette of “white-to-black and everything in between” and making creative updates that give each space its own special style.
“Individual rooms have their own personalities, yet all are of one ‘family’ of a consistent color palette and design aesthetic,” she says. “We used feature walls, custom built-ins and accessories to give this home a warm personality that mimics the homeowners’ personality and lifestyle.”
One of the most dramatic features is the fireplace wall in the family room. Previously faced with gold travertine tile, the fireplace was refaced with a specialized, custom plaster technique and now resembles a work of art.
Dee Dee says the statement wall in the dining room was a labor of love. “We measured, sketched, planned and worked side-by-side with the carpenter to make sure it was executed perfectly. It may be the element I am most proud of because it was a challenge.”
Dee Dee was determined to make the functional elements fabulous in her client's home.
Off the dining room, Dee Dee transformed the wine cellar into a stunning space with dedicated climate control and custom-built storage and display.
In the kitchen, new quartzite countertops and a unique glass-tile backsplash contribute to the home’s modern character. While warm wood floors compliment the wooden beams and counterbalance the black-and-white.
Additionally, Dee Dee furnished and accessorized the space to ultimately bring her design to life.
