When you bring four hard-working and creative coffee-loving entrepreneurs together to launch an innovative new product, the result is pure mixology magic and the fastest-growing cocktail brand founded in Washington, D.C.
That’s exactly what happened with the two-year-old District-based Blossom Beverages. It’s the first locally produced ready-to-drink espresso martini that has continued to take the beverage industry by storm.
Blossom was born when creative local restaurateurs, mixologists, and entrepreneurs decided it was time to collaborate in a unique way to create a “fun, vibrant, and instantly drinkable” bar-grade espresso martini in a can.
The “special sauce,” according to the company’s founder David Jack, and best pals and business partners Stephen Kae, Ade Omitowoju, and Sarah Leonard, is bringing together a team that Jack calls an “affectionate, fun-loving, smart, and tenacious group of people.” They’re all dedicated to making their collective mark on the city with unique craft cocktails. Blossom is now sold in retail stores including Giant, Safeway, and Nationals Park.
“In November 2022, we launched at an outdoor, music-fueled pop-up at Union Market, and honestly didn’t know if we would sell one can,” Jack explains. “When we sold out our entire truckload of 6,000 Blossom Espresso Martini cans at that one event, we knew that we created something incredibly special and rare.”
The goal was to create a top-notch espresso martini in a can that dials up the fun with real spirits and real coffee. The initial well-received recipe is a classic cocktail with a vodka base, hints of vanilla, spice, and chocolate that finishes with a punch from La Colombe espresso.
“We plan to create cocktail-bar-level products and just have fun with it,” Jack says. “It’s a delicious and refreshing beverage with a burst of caffeine and booze to share with friends, and have great conversation, and as a result, a connection blossoms over an award-winning espresso martini. Our sleek cans also have vibrant colors to make them pop.”
Partner and investor Stephen Kae couldn’t be happier with the cocktails that Blossom Beverages has brought to life with its high-quality ingredients. “It took r years of tasting, testing, and perfecting,” he notes.
“We created Blossom not just for espresso martini lovers, but also for those who have never tasted an espresso martini,” says Kae. “It’s all about making memorable moments during the holidays, at kickbacks, parties, concerts, music festivals, sports arenas, bars, and beyond.”
The company is going big on fruit flavors with its new cherry-flavored martini cocktail. Blossom’s Dark Cherry Espresso Martini is a full-forward compilation of Peruvian coffee, real dark cherry juice with chocolate, vanilla, and vodka in a 8.4-ounce can. The drink is currently available in grocery stores, liquor stores, entertainment and sports arenas, and online.
Blossom Beverages' first successful market was Washington, D.C. Now, the classic cocktails are coming to Montgomery County, MD as a second market, and its third much-anticipated launch will be in New York later this year.
“We put a great deal of passion into the production of our ready-to-drink classic cocktails. Espresso martinis have transitioned from a trend to a tradition, just like our morning coffee, only now it kicks off unforgettable nights on the town,” says Jack.
“We built Blossom Beverages first as a community, which is about these blossoming friendships and connections,” he adds. “Espresso and booze get the blood flowing, and it’s all about making your life blossom!”
