Indulge Bartender Fills a Drive to Create and a Gap in Supply.

You know what they say about necessity, mother and invention? Trevor Nelsen found himself smack dab in the middle of the three when the lack of affordable work accessories and a pandemic sparked his desire to create. With extra time on his hands, the bartender at Indulge Bistro and Wine Bar Southglenn had a sudden urge to make bow ties during Covid and realized the leftover fabric was perfect for masks. He stole his aunt's pattern for masks, as they were the most comfortable around, and started sewing. From there, he has begun growing a small business to supply bows and other accessories, including his most popular fanny packs, all highly customizable and unique.

Where are you from and how did you end up in Colorado?

I am originally from Michigan but I moved to Englewood in 2013 when I was 25 because I wanted an adventure. I lived in the same part of Michigan my whole life and wanted to see what else was out there. I’ve worked in the service industry (restaurants) my whole life.

How did Bow Nerd come to be? What is your inspiration? What makes your creations unique?

I wear bow ties for work bartending and couldn't find affordable bows that I liked, so I decided to sew my own. I'd never really used a sewing machine before I started. Halloween was my favorite holiday because I love to create and use my imagination to be anything, so walking around a fabric store and imagining what bows would look like quickly became my passion. I eventually started making fanny packs as well. I had all this extra fabric so I started coordinating face masks. I also make dog bows and dog bandanas. People love to dress their animals in human clothes. Dogs, cats, I even made a bow for a ferret. I am up for any new sewing challenge

What do you do when not working or making bow ties?

Sewing has taken over a lot of my free time but when I’m not working on that I try to go hiking and travel. Anything outdoors as a form of meditation. Anything that takes my full attention/focus like sewing is a great way to ease my mind and not worry about all the extra stuff in life.
