This October when “Think Pink” gear begins to show up around town, most of us will know a relative or friend who has been touched by breast cancer. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer sometime during their lives but according to cancer.org there are more than 3.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States to date.

"It's important that people continue screenings, because if we can catch things at an earlier stage, there's better odds for survival," said Dr. Melissa Kinney, breast surgeon at Medical City Lewisville. "That's a big concern among physicians that cancers are going to be caught when people can feel them as opposed to when they can be seen on the mammogram. The cancer is typically at a higher stage by the time someone can feel it, and it's more likely that they're going to need not only surgery but also chemotherapy and other treatments, like radiation."
