Brewing Espresso Drinks like a Coffee House! Coffee House 29 · Windsor, CO

From the Experts at Coffee House 29: At-Home Espresso Drink Recipes

Ever wondered how to replicate the smooth flavor of a café latte, cappuccino, cortado, or americano at home—or felt lost decoding European coffee menus while the line grows behind you? You’ve come to the right place. Coffee House 29 is sharing their traditional recipes so you can understand these iconic drinks and brew them yourself.

What you will need:

• Ground StoryMaker Coffee (either Bison Bold (dark roast) or Golden Hour (medium roast) for espresso)

• Milk or your preferred milk alternative

• Your preferred syrups

• An Espresso Machine, or a Moka Pot or Aeropress to brew espresso

• A milk steamer (for hot drinks)

The Core Recipes:

  • The Latte (Hot or Iced): The gold standard of café drinks. Blending rich espresso with a generous portion of milk, it’s a smooth classic that pairs wonderfully with vanilla, chocolate, honey, or cinnamon. Traditionally, it is a 12 oz drink. Recipe: 2 oz espresso, 10 oz steamed or cold milk.
  • The Cortado (Hot): Originating in Spain, this modern favorite offers equal parts espresso and steamed milk. Typically served in a small 4 oz glass, it creates a strong, beautiful, and refined drink.
  • The Americano (Hot or Iced): Legend has it Italian baristas coined this term while watering down espresso for American tourists. Today, it offers the best of both worlds—the body of drip coffee with the rich profile of espresso. Recipe: 2 shots of espresso poured over 6–10 oz hot or cold water.
  • The Cappuccino (Hot): An Italian morning staple served in a 6 oz cup. It delivers a stronger coffee taste topped with a thick, airy head of foam.

How to Make a Classic Cappuccino:

  1. Brew a 2 oz double shot of espresso into your cup.
  2. Heavily steam 4 oz of milk until a rich foam forms.
  3. Pour the milk over the espresso until the foam rises above the espresso
  4. Enjoy!

Pro Tip: Lightly steam the milk instead, and you’ve just made a Flat White—the cappuccino’s velvety cousin.
