Sometimes the best neighborhood stories begin quietly. With an idea, a little courage and the hope that if you create something with enough care, people might connect with it.
For Meghan Gran, that idea was Meg’s Coffee.
A proud Gilbert local with a love for coffee, Meghan saw an opportunity to create something she felt was missing: coffee that was handcrafted, memorable and personal.
“I wanted something handcrafted, memorable, and made with genuine care,” Meghan says.
Turning that idea into a business meant learning as she went. The early days were exciting, busy and filled with unknowns. Meghan was developing drinks, discovering what worked and figuring out what she wanted Meg’s Coffee to become.
Then people started coming back.
“Once people began loving the drinks and coming back for more, I knew Meg’s Coffee could become something special,” she says.
Those returning customers gave Meghan confidence in what she was building, but they also showed her something she had not expected.
“What surprised me most was how quickly coffee could turn strangers into friends and create a real sense of community,” Meghan says.
As Meg’s Coffee has grown, Meghan has continued putting pieces of herself into what she creates. Inspiration comes from desserts, changing seasons, family memories and flavors people already know and love. Her goal is to make each combination feel familiar but still a little unexpected.
Her favorite signature drink, The Three Sisters, is also the one she recommends to first-time customers. When fall arrives, the Pumpkin Pie Latte brings warm, nostalgic flavors into the cup.
But for Meghan, the most meaningful part has been seeing people choose to return.
“Seeing familiar names return week after week has been incredibly meaningful,” she says. “Knowing that someone enjoyed their experience enough to make us part of their routine never gets old.”
That is the feeling Meghan wants to preserve, even as her dreams for the business get bigger.
“I want every order to feel like a little bright spot in someone’s day, not just another cup of coffee,” she says.
Looking ahead, Meghan hopes to continue expanding the menu, growing Meg’s Coffee and meeting more people throughout Gilbert. But growth will never mean losing sight of why she started.
“We’re dreaming big, but we never want to lose the personal touch that started it all.”
What began as an idea for better coffee has become something Meghan gets to continue shaping every day. And there is something special about watching a dream that once existed only in your imagination become a small, meaningful part of someone else’s day, one cup at a time.
