When everything has a place, it cuts down not only on clutter, but also on stress. Searching for things can be incredibly frustrating, especially when one’s short on time.
Perfection Custom Closets has a process that makes creating beautifully organized spaces quick and easy. “We are using technology to always improve our whole process from start to finish,” says owner, Aman Bajwa, who took over the Chicago-based store in 2022 and has now brought it to his hometown of Edina. His team has more than 150 years of combined industry experience, including design, construction, and installation.
When customers call, a scheduler will establish a convenient time for a designer to visit their homes or businesses and assess the space. The designer will then work with them one-on-one to find out exactly what they need and want.
“They will ask all kinds of questions, such as how the person gets dressed and what kinds of clothes they wear, in order to be able to provide them with a nice cabinet or closet that suits their day-to-day needs,” he says.
For example, a bedroom closet designed for someone with many long dresses should include more hanging rods than drawers. Homeowners with extensive collections of shoes, scarves, or jewelry need dedicated storage for those items.
“The right designer is actually going to help organize your life,” says Aman. “We work with different spaces, providing you with drawings and pricing that go along with them. They will show you different finishes, colors, and materials and suggest various accessories such as a jewelry tray.” Customers are also welcome to visit their showrooms to view even more options.
Once the design is finished and approved, the engineering team takes over. “This product has to be manufactured, and then, simultaneously, our install coordinator is going to schedule a date and time for installation based on when you can receive that product.”
Unlike some big corporate retailers, his products are manufactured close to home. His closet manufacturing company, Kambium, located in Lakeville, uses domestic North American raw materials. “We have faster lead times, so if something were to happen, let's say even two months down the road, we're able to quickly replace a part that may be needed,” says Aman. “And because we don’t have corporate overhead and franchise fees, our prices are very competitive.”
While Kambium manufactures items for Perfection Custom Closets, it also supplies and ships products to 50-plus closet companies nationwide. “We actually have three manufacturing facilities – the one in Lakeville, one in Princeton, and another in Chicago. It's about 70,000-plus square feet of manufacturing space.”
Along with bedroom closets, Perfection Custom Closets also creates closet systems for pantries, mudrooms, bathrooms, entryways, laundry rooms, home offices, entertainment areas, garages and more. “Maybe someone has an attic area, and they want to create a little playroom for their kids with cabinetry to store their toys,” he says. “We are able to do that too.”
Another benefit of having a custom closet is being able to utilize all available space in a home or business. “You're getting more storage for the same square footage because you can have shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, making the whole space more functional. You’re also adding value to your home when potential buyers see that custom closets have already been installed.”
Once a closet is finished, the customer and designer perform a walk through to ensure that everything meets expectations.
In addition to working with home and business owners on the retail side, the company operates a factory-direct wholesale business for contractors, builders, and interior designers.
“We've been manufacturing closets in our backyard all these years, and now we're bringing it right here to Edina,” says Aman. “We’re local. We live here, and my boys attend the Edina School District.”
