Bringing Unique Interior Design to the Twin Cities

At Home & Co. Will Continue Founder’s Legacy

Nestled along 50th and France, At Home & Co. has been a staple of the Edina shopping district for years with founder Suzanne Haugland at the helm.

“For every client, Suzanne and the team have always wanted to create a unique space that speaks to them,” co-manager Mollie Loechler says.

Suzanne had always been “at home” in the interior design world. Starting in 1983, she opened several stores to bring new styles to the area.

After name changes and expansions, At Home & Co. opened in 2013 with a full design crew that concentrates on tailoring interiors to the lifestyle of their clients. It also has a retail storefront that carries an assortment of furnishings, home decor and gift items.

Last fall, Suzanne unfortunately passed away from cancer, leaving behind a legacy that her team and board of directors plan to continue.

“It was her passion and talent that brought so many grand memories to her clients, friends, and the Edina community,” the board of directors say. “Suz and her late husband, Gene, were instrumental to what we see and know 50th and France as – a wonderful destination for all. Her energy, spirit and talent will be greatly missed by many.”

Today, At Home & Co. is owned and managed by her trust. Designers Amy Westerberg and Mollie Loechler are running it with the support of the trustees and board.

“We do not plan on changing the basis of the business,” Amy says. “Suzanne had a wonderful thing going and we want to honor that while adding growth through our different divisions. She was incredible with design and supporting her staff, and will be greatly missed.”

Amy and Mollie started working for the company as designers eight and 10 years ago respectively.

“I love what we do,” Mollie says. “Every client is so different, which means each project is a new challenging task to work on. I really like connecting with clients and collaborating on their dream spaces.”

Amy adds, “It really is special. Every space is a reflection of the client. Our retail side of things is very fun too. A customer can come in anytime, and know that they can get quick design advice and be able to take home pieces that will give them immediate satisfaction.”

When partnering with an At Home and Co. designer, everything is overseen for the client.

“Our initial in-home consultation includes measuring and photography of the space,” Amy says. “We discuss how the space will be used and who will be using it to determine needs. We ask in-depth questions to learn about their design aesthetic. We then create floor plans to scale and research product selections before having the client in for a formal presentation. We are extremely collaborative so that each client is getting the look they love and that it is unique to them.”

Mollie adds, “There is more collaboration when the actual construction/designing process starts. We also schedule all the appointments needed for the project, including painters, plumbers or electricians.

If a client has a designer that they like to use who isn’t on the At Home & Co. team, this can be accommodated through a trade program.

“Outside designers can partner with us and they will have access to over 400 vendors without the hassle of sourcing through multiple showrooms,” Amy says. “They can use our resource library and design studio, and our design project manager will oversee pricing, ordering, tracking, receiving and any unforeseen issues. This is an invaluable service saving designers tremendous time and money.”

Other builders, contractors and realtors can also utilize this service via partnership.

“Many companies do not have their own design staff, but still want to give their clients the option of working with one,” Amy says. “We can be a help in keeping outside clients on track from construction decisions to finished plumbing, lighting, flooring, hard surfaces and hardware.”

Whether it be interior design, outside partnerships or shopping decor retail, At Home & Co. has got their clients covered.

As the team looks toward the company’s future, they all agree it is bright.
