Food is home - and some foods, whether it’s mom’s recipe or a state classic, bring us back for a sweet second of nostalgia.
Colorado is lamb country, Midwesterners love their fried pickles, and Californians feel at home with avocado toast. For New Yorkers, it’s a pizza slice that pays due tribute to the East. But finding a pizza shop that truly transports you back to the Big Apple is few and far between in Colorado.
Carlo, a Brooklyn native, moved to Denver in ‘95 and established Brooklyn’s Finest Pizza 20 years later. Seeing as Denver is home to plenty of East Coast transplants, he’s keen on bringing fellow New Yorkers back home for a moment with his classic pizzas, strombolis, pastas, and salads. There are currently two locations in Denver, one off of Lowell Boulevard and the other off of 16th Street Mall.
Brooklyn’s Finest isn’t your run-of-the-mill corner pizza shop. They’re vetted, with deep roots in East Coast cuisine. They've won plenty of awards, from being the number one Denver pizza shop according to Google for the past five years to ranking as a top-ten pizzeria several times. Carlo credits the recognition to his hometown recipe and truly fresh ingredients: “I make the food the way I grew up with it, with the best meats and cheeses, and our whole staff is trained that way. What I did in New York, I do here.”
Some pizza shops only offer full pies, making on-the-go lunches less ideal. This isn’t the case at Brooklyn’s Finest. Whether you want a full pizza for family night or a slice for your hour-long lunch, both stores allow for to-go, dine in and delivery options. Carlo also offers classic Italian strombolis, pastas, and refreshing salads. The 16th Street location usually has 25 different pizzas on display and in rotation.
You’ll find a full bar at both locations, but Carlo stresses that Brooklyn’s Finest is a family establishment. The restaurant also doesn’t shy away from community efforts. With a location across the street from Regis University, Carlo often gives back to higher education. It’s all part of a collective effort to stay in tune with the Denver community. He says, “We’re here for the neighborhood. Great service, quality food, and happy customers are all we’re after.”
Taste Carlo’s traditional recipes at their location off of Lowell Boulevard or their second shop off of 16th Street, and be sure to browse their menu at brooklynsfinestpizza303.com. There, you can order online at either location or book an upcoming catering in mere minutes. You can also book a pickup or delivery order directly, rather than paying those pesky DoorDash and Postmates service fees.
