Brunch + a Matinee = a Day Date!

We are switching it up in the month of October, as with the chillier weather heading our way, maybe we should venture out to enjoy Brunch + a Matinee = a Day Date!

And there is no better place than to start off with brunch at one of St. Louis’s most quaint, and historic places.

The Barn

Perfectly nestled in the heart of Crestwood next to the Great Rivers Greenway Trail, The Barn is the perfect place to sit back and enjoy their incredibly tasty breakfast fare or try something off their delectable lunch menu, as either will put a smile on your face every time you visit. And talk about a destination place—The Barn is the perfect stopping place for all of the runners, walkers and bikers along the trail too, who want to stop for a minute to enjoy a meal or complimentary water before their adventure continues. The Barn is also home to a gift shop with one-of-a-kind items, and might I suggest too that you make a point to take home one or two of The Barn's scrumptious homemade pastries, cakes, pies or cheesecakes, made fresh daily, as something sweet with your sweetie might be the perfect way to finish off this most perfect day!

The Laundromat

If an afternoon at home viewing a newly released film sounds like just the ticket, then plan to catch director Steven Soderbergh’s latest creation featuring an all-star cast on Netflix.

As we meet Widow Ellen Martin (Meryl Streep), she is in the midst of a dream vacation when tragedy strikes, leading her to investigate an insurance policy that apparently isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. Soon, Ellen finds herself in the midst of uncovering a slew of unquestionable dealings, all linked back to one Panamanian law firm that happens to have a vested interest in making most of the millionaires of this world even richer! And, it seems that the founding members of this firm, Jurgen Mossack (Gary Oldman) and Ramon Fonseca (Antonio Banderas) are making sure that their dealings on behalf of their super-wealthy clients, including all of the illicit crimes they are committing, are kept under wraps. Well, that is, until now.

The film is rated R for language and sexual content with a running time of one hour and 36 minutes. The Laundromat also stars Sharon Stone, David Schwimmer, Melissa Rauch, Will Forte and Jeffrey Wright and will be released on Netflix Oct. 18.

Lucy in the Sky

If you want to catch a newly released film at a theater near you one afternoon, then you have to head out for a matinee showing of director and writer Noah Hawley’s sci-fi drama.

Determined to make her way through NASA’s Space Program, we meet Lucy Cola (Natalie Portman), working diligently to make it into space. Now, as she lives her dream of venturing into outer space, the transcendent view of her own life from afar gives it all new meaning. But when she must return to the mundane normalcy of her existence here on earth, it seems that Lucy’s world is unraveling, as she longs to return to the gloriousness of space and her life amongst the stars.

The film is rated R for language and sexual content and has a running time of two hours and four minutes. Lucy in the Sky also stars St. Louis's own Jon Hamm, Ellen Burstyn, Dan Stevens, Zazie Beetz, and Nick Offerman and will be released in theaters Oct. 4.
