Cuyahoga Community College’s Brunswick University Center is welcoming three new programs to its offerings.
Classes in medical coding, dispatch training and the Cleveland Codes program will start in January.
The College’s Comprehensive Professional Medical Coding program (Tri-C.edu/Buc-MedicalCoding) uses the American Academy of Professional Coders curriculum and is designed to prepare individuals to take the Certified Professional Coder exam.
After successfully passing the CPC exam, students are given the option to use Practicodes, which replicates real-life coding scenarios. By completing Practicodes, students earn one year of experience toward the removal of their apprentice "A" designation.
The medical coding program prepares students to enter the workforce as certified professional coders in hospitals and clinics, insurance agencies, law firms and government agencies. According to AAPC, the average salary in 2018 for Ohio was $51,359 per year. The field has a projected 20 percent growth in health care information jobs.

The dispatch training program (Tri-C.edu/Dispatch) is a 12-week, 192-hour program that combines classroom and hands-on training. Students will practice handling single and multiple simulated calls with scenarios in law, fire and EMS using 911 dispatch software. The program teaches how to read maps effectively, keyboarding skills and how to listen and respond to actual 911 and non-emergency calls.
The demand for qualified dispatchers continues to grow in police departments, fire departments, law enforcement agencies, colleges and universities, hospitals, ambulance services, telematics call centers and transportation companies.

Finally, Cleveland Codes (Tri-C.edu/Clevelandcodes) is a full-time, 14-week IT fast-track program. The fully immersive program provides students with the skills necessary to pursue a career in web application development. They will learn programming in C# within the .NET framework, JavaScript and database fundamentals. Students can test for four Microsoft certifications.
All three programs are now accepting students.
Located next to Brunswick High School and the recreation center, Brunswick University Center is easily accessible from I-71 and Route 303.
Students can complete their transferrable associate degree by attending day or evening classes. Program offerings also include college coursework for high school students (College Credit Plus), workforce training in the manufacturing trades, and career and professional development classes in finance, ISO, leadership, project management and Lean Six Sigma.
In addition, Franklin University and Tiffin University courses are located on-site. These local partnerships allow students to move seamlessly from community college classes into four-year university coursework while staying close to home. Students can complete bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice–Justice Administration; Business Administration and Management & Leadership; and Accounting and Forensic Accounting. Appointments can be made with university representatives during their office hours at the center.
