It was the morning of Nowruz, the Persian New Year. Although spring had officially arrived, winter still lingered in the air. I remember putting on my coat, gathering Ava’s vaccination records, school documents, and my own university papers before leaving home.
At the time, I was completing my final year of architecture school in Iran. Before our trip, I asked several of my professors to write recommendation letters so I could visit architectural schools and educational centers abroad. I still have one of those letters today.
