Building Community

Walking the walk with Habitat For Humanity

Habitat for Humanity North Central Georgia and North Point Ministries have joined forces in a powerful partnership that is changing the trajectory of life for one local family and strengthening the fabric of the community in the process. Through a $180,000 all-house sponsorship made possible by North Point Ministries’ Be Rich campaign, along with an extraordinary commitment of volunteer time, this partnership is helping turn the dream of homeownership into a reality for a hard-working family who qualified for Habitat’s affordable homeownership program.

This home is being built through the combined generosity and service of North Point Community Church, Browns Bridge Church and Woodstock City Church. The all-house sponsorship fully funds the construction of the home, from the foundation and framing to the final touches of paint and landscaping. In addition to the financial gift, volunteers from across North Point Ministries’ churches will show up week after week, offering their time, sweat and encouragement on the build site. At the heart of this partnership is a shared belief: stable, affordable housing creates a foundation for families to thrive.

Over the course of approximately four months, volunteers will serve on 12 consecutive Saturdays to help move construction forward at every stage. Many have no prior construction experience, but all bring a strong desire to serve. Under the guidance of Habitat’s construction staff, volunteers learn to swing hammers, set trusses, paint walls, install flooring, hang siding and plant shrubs and flowers that will welcome the family home.

Building a Habitat home is both a logistical and relational undertaking. On average, it takes about four months of construction, roughly 3,318 volunteer hours, and close to 225 individual volunteer slots to complete a single house from start to finish. Each task—whether framing interior walls, raising roof trusses, painting trim or installing landscaping—is broken into manageable steps that allow volunteers of all skill levels to participate safely and meaningfully. Habitat provides the materials, tools and supervision, while partners like North Point Ministries provide the people power and funding that make the project possible.

For North Point Ministries, this house represents more than a service project; it is a tangible expression of faith in action. “We talk a lot about loving our neighbors,” shared one North Point staff member. “This partnership with Habitat gave our churches a practical way to do that—by literally helping build the walls of a family’s future.” One volunteer reflected, “This experience is a reminder that church isn’t just a building, it’s how we come together to care for our community.”

The future homeowner family will work alongside volunteers throughout the build, contributing their own “sweat equity” hours and forming relationships with those investing in their new home. That shared experience will make the dedication ceremony especially meaningful.

“Our partnership with North Point Ministries shows what can happen when generosity and service come together,” said Katherine Ortwerth, Director of Philanthropy. “Through the Be Rich campaign and the commitment of volunteers from North Point, Browns Bridge and Woodstock City Churches, this community is not just building a house—it’s building stability, hope and opportunity for a family.”

As the family turns the key in their front door, the impact of this partnership will continue to echo through meals shared at the kitchen table, homework done in the living room and milestones celebrated under a safe and permanent roof—made possible by a community willing to Give Serve Love and build.
