When Sydnee Gee opened the doors to Callahan’s, she wasn’t just introducing another boutique to Cypress—she was creating the kind of place she had always hoped existed: one where shopping feels personal, families feel welcome and neighbors become friends. “It’s the most fun job,” Gee said. “I get to talk to people, hear their stories and get to know them.”
That sense of connection is at the heart of Callahan’s, a locally owned boutique offering women’s clothing, gifts, home décor, children’s items, men’s products and locally inspired game day apparel. But the shop’s story begins long before its first customers walked through the doors.
A Baylor University graduate with a degree in kinesiology, Gee originally envisioned a career as a physical education teacher. Instead, she found herself teaching first grade before stepping away from the classroom to stay home with her growing family. Today, she and her husband are raising two young sons and are expecting a daughter.
The idea for Callahan’s emerged in late 2024 during a season of change. While her husband was reevaluating his career path, Gee proposed something entirely unexpected. “I’ve always loved fashion and helping people,” she said. “I just thought, ‘What if we do this?’” The answer from her husband was simple: “Okay, I trust you.”
That leap of faith set a whirlwind year in motion. After months of paperwork, searching for the right location and transforming an empty space into the boutique they had imagined, Callahan’s opened just before the start of the school year. Gee admits opening day came with plenty of nerves. “I was so scared,” she said. “I kept thinking, ‘What if no one comes?’” Instead, the boutique was welcomed with enthusiastic support from the Cypress community. Friends, family and first-time shoppers filled the store, affirming that the risk had been worth taking. “It was just the coolest thing to see that we brought something people wanted here,” she said.
Today, Callahan’s reflects the values that inspired its creation. Gee describes the boutique as family-friendly and faith-centered, with thoughtful touches throughout the store. Children can play in a dedicated area while parents browse, toys are available in fitting rooms to keep little ones occupied, and wide aisles accommodate strollers.
Faith also quietly shapes the atmosphere. Christian gifts are displayed throughout the boutique, uplifting music fills the space and encouraging Bible verses are posted in the employee area. “My faith has been the root of all of this,” Gee said. “There have been so many times where I’ve thought, ‘I don’t know how we’re going to get through this,’ but every time, we’ve been provided for.”
That welcoming environment extends beyond shopping. Callahan’s regularly hosts events including needlepoint and Mahjong classes, along with summer story times for children—transforming the boutique into a gathering place as much as a retail store. “We want people to come, bring the people they love and have a good time,” Gee said. “We want them to leave happy.”
Even selecting merchandise comes down to creating that experience. While women’s apparel remains the boutique’s most popular category, Gee carefully curates items she believes customers will genuinely enjoy, balancing fresh finds with products shoppers continue to request. Still, she says the relationships matter more than the sales.
Whether she’s remembering a customer shopping for her daughter’s graduation or hearing someone say they found their new favorite store, those everyday conversations are reminders that she is on the right path.
