Your home should be your refuge. A place of comfort. Of safety. A place that feels well… like home. But when injury, health changes, or aging make getting around harder, and that beautiful bathtub or basement washer and dryer turn into daily obstacles, that sense of ease and safety can slip away. Lindee Construction knows this all too well, and they’ve been helping their clients make their home feel like a home again since 1984.
“At Lindee Construction, we specialize in ADA and accessibility projects, helping clients age-in-place and working with clients with disabilities and mobility challenges,” explains Frank Hinck, owner of Lindee Construction. “When I bought Lindee two years ago, I felt aligned with their mission and the work they do, as I had worked with Habitat for Humanity’s A Brush with Kindness program, which does similar home modification and accessibility projects.”
Lindee is a self-performing General Contractor, and their staff does everything from accessible bathroom remodels, kitchen modifications, ramps, and home entry solutions to elevators, widening doorways and halls, and sensory rooms. “I pride myself on being a good communicator, and we know that many times this is a big emotional conversation,” says Frank. “We always approach with sensitivity and ensure we do exactly what our client wants so they're safe and happy in their home.”
“We’re unique in that we’re one of the few builders that have a CAPS certification, which is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist.” A CAPS certification means Frank has been trained through the National Association of Home Builders to design and build home modifications that improve safety, accessibility, and independence. In other words, Frank and his team are the experts at what they do.
“We’ve done over 140 accessibility projects over the last two years,” says Frank. “Because we are the demo guys, tile setters, painters, and carpenters, we move seamlessly and quickly through a project. We also work with a trusted team of plumbers, electricians, heating specialists, and a CAPS-certified interior designer.”
Lindee’s office is located in the International Market Square (IMS) Design Center, where you'll find every home-related vendor you could imagine. “There are four different tile vendors, The Knobbery for pulls and hardware, lighting showrooms, Cambria, furniture vendors, and so much more,” says Frank. “We love inviting our clients to the office for a design consultation to visit all these on-site vendors and get great ideas.”
Because when remodeling your home, aesthetics are just as important as functionality. “We know the best products for accessibility. So whether it's anti-slip tile or a toilet paper dispenser equipped with a grab bar, we can guide you to the best products that also match the style of your home — and don’t look institutional, like you’re in a nursing home.”
When starting a project, Frank and his team look at three main factors:
- Exterior barriers to entry and getting into the home. Do you live on a hill or have steps? How can you enter and leave safely multiple times a day?
- The interior of the home. What areas of the home do you want to use? Focusing on which areas you want to access that you currently cannot, and which spaces you would like to transform for accessibility.
- Making your home welcoming for others. How to make your home accessible for family and friends with mobility challenges.
“We take a holistic approach with all our clients,” says Frank. “We’ll come out and do an assessment, meet the whole family, and see what their short and long-term goals and needs are. We customize everything specifically to the person’s needs.”
“I love going into an assessment and having the family recognize that Lindee is a company that will put their wishes and safety first. When I can offer them the perfect product and solutions. For instance, when I can say, ‘We don’t need to rip out seven doors to widen the doorways, I have the perfect door hinge that will widen the space and will only take two days to complete.’”
Lindee also accepts MN State CADI Waiver payments for home accessibility updates, which has helped many families who can’t afford a full remodel still receive the home modifications they need. Frank shares, “We recently completed a project in Plymouth where the family paid to build a much-needed addition to their home, and the Waiver covered all the interior work, including a roll-in shower stall, ceiling lift, and ceiling patient lift.”
So, rather than downsizing or moving, the Lindee team remodels your home to make it safe and comfortable at a lower cost than moving and with less stress and effort on your end. The best part? You make upgrades that add value to your home while staying in the home you’ve created and love.
“The most rewarding part for me is the transformation at the end of the project, knowing the person and family have a more accessible space that they can move through seamlessly,” says Frank. “That the changes make it easier for the client, their spouse or caretaker, and that they can enjoy their house in the long term.”
