Derma Health Skin & Laser gives us a few tips for protecting our skin this summer

Welcome to summer time in Gilbert! We know that by mid-summer, it's a little hot. Okay, it’s really hot! However, we locals don’t just sit inside of their house all day with the air conditioning blasting - no way. Summer months are an opportunity to explore the less busy attractions, take advantage of seasonal discounts at hotels and resorts, and indulge in frozen treats and cocktails. 

This time exploring can really affect your skin. When sunlight hits your skin, it can damage healthy cells. Without proper sun protection, this damage can build up and, in time, signs of sun damage like freckles, age spots, and wrinkles can appear. Our friends at Derma Health Skin & Laser were happy to share some true valley insider tips for protecting your skin this summer.  

Here are a few healthy skin secrets to summer 

  1. Drink plenty of H2O! We live in a desert. It's important to stay hydrated- keeps the skin more youthful.  It is recommended that you drink a minimum of 1 - 8 oz glass of water for ever 15 - 20 minutes you are out in the sun. 
  2. The real youth elixir: sunscreen. Especially in the sunny state of AZ!  We live in a desert, need I say more? Wearing a hat is not enough and sun rays bounce off everything! It's important to reapply throughout the day
  3. Prevent your hands from showing your age. Apply on spf before driving in the car as the windshield maximizes the UV rays onto your hands. 
  4. In the summer increased sweating can lead to clogged or obstructed pores.  Prevent acne by eating clean!  Refrain from junk foods. You are what you eat! 
  5. Invest in travel size skin care products for your summer vacay, and for when you need to reapply throughout the day.
