LIVING OFF THE LAND THROUGH LOCAL AND URBAN FORAGING

Article by McKenzie Joyner

Treefort 2021, Boise Idaho— I had the opportunity to attend the Food Fort panel for local foraging. I have always been interested in learning more and was delighted to see this topic on the schedule. It was an incredible panel of local professionals who are sharing and educating others on how to forage for their own food.

I loved hearing the unique perspective of each individual and what they loved to forage for. They shared about the abundance of food that they have found just walking our local greenbelt.

It made me so excited to pick up some of their book recommendations, start following some others on social & to get out into the wilderness and start finding food.

They touched on how foraging is almost a lost art and how important it is to keep it alive and pass on to each generation. I am going to make it my goal to learn more so I too can play a part in keeping foraging alive.
