Friends and family tell Karoline and Martin Aguilar, the new owners of Camillo’s Fine Jewelry, that “they were born for this.” They might be new to the Conroe area, but the couple brings their own history of love to a business Conroe has loved for almost forty years.
Originally from Mexico, both have an extensive background in luxury retail. Karoline’s father owned a large luxury rug store, and Martin worked as a retail consultant with twenty years of experience in the space. When they saw Camillo’s was for sale, they say it was a natural choice. Fine jewelry is new, but many aspects of the business are familiar.
While this is their first time working a business together, the combination of shared goals and passion for the business is the secret to their success. Both were worried they might spend all day fighting when they started to work together, but the opposite has proven to be true. Martin says, “We are a team, and we talk about it like that.” The two, who have been married for 12 years, know each other’s strengths and divide duties accordingly.
One trait they both share is good taste in luxury jewelry pieces. Their inspiration for inventory curation comes from vendor relationships, magazines, and, most importantly, personal intuition and taste. Both love fine jewelry and bring their own interest into the selection process.
The Aguilar’s love extends to special moments like when men come to pick up engagement rings. Martin remembers fondly a customer getting engaged for the first time at 55 years old and assisting him with a ring.
