In September, The Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma got their first look at a one-of-a-kind urban STEM camp opening in the heart of OKC's Adventure District.

Camp Trivera, a $12 million STEM camp, is designed to bring science and engineering, math and technology and the arts to life while offering a fun, outdoor urban experience for Girl Scouts throughout the state. Camp Trivera sits on approximately 17 acres of a 40-acre parcel just east of the Oklahoma City Zoo & Botanical Gardens, and will serve Girl Scouts, families and the community alike.

From learning about aerodynamics ziplining across the lake to the OKC Zoo to testing their geological knowledge while climbing the indoor rock wall, these unique features, and many more STEM “surprises” that can be found across the property, are sure to have an impact on girls and inspire the next generation of leaders. The camp will also provide girls the opportunity to be comfortable in the outdoors – camping, hiking, kayaking – while also having indoor spaces for first-time campers who aren’t quite sure about traditional camping just yet.

The first of its kind in the United States, Camp Trivera is made especially with tomorrow’s female leaders in mind. Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education is its focus, with features such as STEM classes focusing on astronomy taught by a NASA-certified instructor that can spark a lifelong interest in science fields.

Labs are designed to give girls the foundation they need to pursue higher-level courses that correlate with future careers and the girls will also be exposed to current and historical examples of women have helped pave the way for future generations.

"STEM concepts and activities can be found throughout the venue. We want girls to dream big. Trivera is a perfect space for that," said Shannon Evers, CEO of GSWESTOK. "These carefully-planned elements reflect a $12 million investment and more than three years of planning."

The camp features an indoor climbing wall, outdoor amphitheater, sleeping accommodations, a zip line from the camp across the lake and into the Oklahoma City Zoo, a hammock deck and a treehouse. The camp will be available for private rentals when it is not in use by the Girl Scouts.

"Camp Trivera the first camp of its kind in that there is a STE(A)M surprise around every corner,” said Evers.
