Cardio, Lift, Stretch, Repeat

Getting fit in Roswell has never been more fun. Here's a menu of some of our favorite gyms.

Body Fit Training

At Body Fit Training, coaches are constantly innovating and mixing things up with their progressive training program so your body won’t plateau and you’ll see progress towards your fitness goals. The new program block to start the year strong includes a great lineup. BFT boasts 14 different types of classes rotating for a well-rounded progressive program. Look for a strength session on Tuesday, January 2, focusing on the brain-to-muscle connection with lifting weights, followed up by Shred on January 3, a class that has two blocks of cardio and two blocks of lifting weights.

“Whether you are already lifting weights or are curious about adding this to your fitness journey, these are some sessions that you need to try! You’ll experience the most efficient 50 mins of strength training,” says Alberto Perez, Body Fit Training owner.

We asked about his go-to power snacks. “Glad you asked that, because nutrition is key to achieving your fitness goals. I like to keep it simple, not necessarily for snacks but in general,” says Alberto. “Prioritize eating protein, fats, and carbs that are easy to find and fun to eat. If we make a conscious effort to eat protein at every meal or snack, it’ll be easier to meet our daily protein requirements and better yet, protein is very filling, so, when we prioritize protein we won’t be hungry for fats and carbs.”

Hydration is key. While everyone is different regarding eating before training, but hydration is a must. Alberto suggests a glass of water with one lime and one teaspoon of pink salt. Salt and minerals allow water to travel into our cells to keep us hydrated during training.

While goal setting is important, community can be a major motivating factor. Alberto says, “As I like to think, achieving your fitness goals should be the byproduct and not the reason why you exercise every day. Find a place where you have a good time. Consistency will drive results. Strong muscles are key for an enhanced quality of life. Do it safely, with proper guidance, with friends, and in a cool place.”

Crunch Fitness

Crunch is a gym that believes in making serious exercise fun by fusing fitness and entertainment and pioneering a philosophy of “No Judgments.” Crunch serves a fitness community for all kinds of people with all types of goals, exercising all different ways, working out at the same place together. Today, they are renowned for creating one-of-a-kind group fitness classes and unique programming for their wildly diverse members. The gym is launching some new additions to the group fitness schedule. The club is hosting a "New Year, Better You" challenge for members to keep them accountable and motivated the first month of the year.

Tony Scrimale is CEO at CR Fitness, LLC and is happy to offer Roswell City Lifestyle readers an assessment with a trainer, known as the "Crunch One Kickoff,” for only $10 to help members get started right in the new year. He says, "At Crunch, we can guarantee you’ll be greeted with a friendly face as you walk in the door.” New members can jump into some fun, accessible classes that won’t be as intimidating as the weight floor. From there, they will get you set up with a trainer to help provide you with workouts and teach you proper form. "This will also ease the intimidation of working out and give you a plan to execute so you feel confident while being in the gym,” says Tony. His tips on fueling up? Prior to working out, go with carbs and fats to provide energy. His go-to are apple and peanut butter. Chase a workout with a protein shake and pat yourself on the back!

SFX Fitness

Meet trainer, Yara Matthew, raised in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and now a fixture in Roswell’s fitness world. At SFX Fitness, she is manager, certified as a NASM certified personal trainer and a pain-free performance specialist. She recently completed her kettlebell certification, so she brings new enthusiasm and strategies to her clients’ workouts.

To those who are thinking of starting a fitness journey this month her initial advice is to figure out your “why.” “ Whether your reason is for health benefits or body aesthetics, this will give you a clear vision and the right energy needed to accomplish your goals,” Yara says. “And, I will let you know that there is no such thing as motivation. Maybe in the beginning, sure, but that will die down very quickly. Self-discipline is what we lack and that is what you will need to rely on throughout your fitness journey!”

Inside the gym, she is known for her dynamic warm ups. She says, “I take warm ups very seriously because they lower risk of injury, muscle tension and pain and also improve performance.”

Her goal in life? “To bring value to others’ lives through fitness and good health.” Yara enjoys singing and making her own music when she’s not jumping, squatting, running, lifting and coaching.

Alloy Personal Training

Alloy Personal Training is adding a partnership with Marek Health, expanding on owner Jenn Benson’s program of customized small group functional strength training. “This is exciting news because we can now fuse cutting edge health technology and personalized fitness with a new level of comprehensive wellness,” says Jenn. “This includes blood panels and lab reviews with actionable advice and treatment options. You can't get more personalized than that!”

Jenn’s book, Dear Couch, We're Through! is available on Amazon for her real-life experiences and fun ideas. “The short answer is 'start simple and simply start!’ Take one action step, the rest will follow.”

BODYBAR Pilates Roswell

Opening in December 2023, in the Connexion Roswell, BODYBAR Pilates Roswell will offer a modern take on reformer Pilates in an environment that is conducive to building communities. Using core Pilates principles, they will offer group pilates classes 7 days a week. Each 40 to 50-minute class is designed to provide a full-body workout that is high-intensity, low-impact and perfect for increasing flexibility, muscle strength, posture and boosting overall health. Whether a member is a 70-year-old wellness guru, a 40-something working parent, or a 25-year-old who is just getting started, the BODYBAR workout can be customized to meet everyone’s personal fitness goals. Join in welcoming BODYBAR at a ribbon cutting on January 15 at 11 a.m. The day will include studio tours, staff introductions, light refreshments, raffles and membership discounts.

The BODYBAR mission is to share an amazing workout experience, rooted in the fundamentals of reformer Pilates, to build diverse communities where love, respect, and positive energy help us achieve the best versions of ourselves.

The hardest step for anything is the first step - deciding to walk in the door, to take the first step and try something new. But once you do, it's amazing to see how your body and mentality can thrive when you engage in a regular fitness routine. Moving the body stimulates endorphins which elevates mood and allows the body's nervous system a reset. Incorporating an exercise program likes Pilates will also help increase flexibility, improve posture and boost overall well-being.

The BODYBAR Pilates moved into the Atlanta area when studio owner Shannon Renegar, opened the first Georgia-based BODYBAR Pilates in Alpharetta in January 2021. The management team including Shannon, Alpharetta-Roswell general manager Jennifer Isaac, Roswell studio manager Brynn Hestand, and fitness manager Stephanie Olic, along with an amazing team of instructors and lobby staff are excited to make Roswell their new home.
