For many stay-at-home parents, days are overrun with cleaning, cooking, and caring for children, often excluding time to enjoy simple pleasures like meeting with a friend. It was a craving for connection that led Jamie Easton, then three months postpartum, to first start The Mom Walk Collective (TMWC) in her California hometown. Since her initial request for other moms to join her for a walk on social media, TMWC has grown to include over 350+ cities across the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, and South Africa, including a local chapter in Highland Village.
Local moms Alexis Burris and Kendyl Ferch became the leaders of TMWC-Highland Village in early 2025. Kendyl had heard about the group and encouraged Alexis to join her on a walk. After their first walk, they were hooked. “It brought us so much joy getting out of the house and connecting with other moms,” recalls Alexis.
While TMWC is designed for moms, other caregivers join in on the walks too, including dads and grandmothers, always with little ones in tow. Alexis and Kendyl plan the twice-monthly walks and other meetups on a variety of days to include others as much as possible in the fun. At the beginning of each event, Alexis and Kendyl lead the group, typically about 10 to 15 moms, through introductions and icebreaker activities to help encourage friendship building.
For anyone thinking of joining TMWC on one of their free walks, Alexis wants them to know, “It’s about connection, showing up, building the community, and reminding moms that you don’t have to do this alone. Whether you’re a brand-new mom, a seasoned mom, or anywhere in between, we have someone that’s going through the same season of life. You’re never alone when you walk with us.”
