Caring for Kids

Kids Express Offers Convenient Pediatric Clinic

As a parent, you are always on high alert when it comes to your child’s health—maybe more so this year than ever before. This winter, you may be wondering, what can be expected for flu season amid COVID-19?

“The short answer is, we don’t know exactly what to expect,” says Lisa Ziemnik, MD, division chief urgent care and Kids Express at Dayton Children’s Hospital. “What we do know is that all of the same measures we have been taking to prevent COVID-19, such as good hand washing, mask wearing and social distancing, are also measures that prevent the flu and other infectious diseases.”

If your child does get sick this winter and you can’t get into your pediatrician, what should you do?

Luckily, West Chester and Mason are the home to the only pediatric-focused retail clinics in the state of Ohio—Dayton Children’s Kids Express. Along with the convenience that comes with a retail health clinic, Kids Express offers online scheduling and the comfort of knowing your child will be seen by a pediatric-trained nurse practitioner in a clean, safe and friendly environment.

“We know that parents are busy and need options,” says Dr. Ziemnik. “We also know that when their child gets sick, many times they already have a pretty good idea what is wrong. We wanted to give them an option for care that they can trust is kid-focused but is also easy and fast.”

Kids Express focuses on caring for children ages 6 weeks to 18 years with everyday conditions such as:

  • Colds

  • COVID-19 concerns (video visit recommended)

  • Flu

  • Flu shot

  • Sore/strep throats

  • Sinus infection

  • Ear infections

  • Minor cuts and bruises (no stitches)

  • Pink eye

  • Rashes
