Caring Through COVID

Partners in Love and Business

When the pandemic hit in March of 2020, many dental practices had to shut down. Due to hard work, a solid community, and a stroke of fame, that’s not Dr. Nathaniel “Boone” Caldon and Dr. Alexandra Hung’s story. The couple, who became romantic a year and a half prior, made the decision to become business partners as well-- and it has proven to be a good one.

A dentist in her native country of Venezuela, Dr. Alex moved to America and obtained her hygienist license here as well. In 2017, she received a grant to open her own hygiene practice in the Miramont Family Medicine building in Fort Collins. She had one room and one chair.

Dr. Nathaniel, a dentist since 2007, was working for a local corporate dental practice after spending time in the military. Dr. Alex mentioned that some of her patients had a need for more advanced dentistry and asked him if he would be interested in visiting patients in her little office.

“So, in December I opened a small LLC just for myself. On my days off, I started seeing some of her patients,” he says.

Shortly after, COVID happened. Most of the corporate dentist offices decided to close down. Since Dr. Nathaniel wasn’t allowed to see patients in his regular office, he started to see emergency patients full-time in Dr. Alex’s office during the first three months of the pandemic.

“Then, a completely amazing thing happened,” says Dr. Alex. “Telemundo found out we were open and that I was from Venezuela, which means we sometimes speak Spanish in the office. They did an interview with us and we became famous!”

“She’s exaggerating,” says Dr. Nathaniel, laughing. “But, we had people coming from three to four hours away.” They did other interviews as well, and even more people came calling.

Since August 2020, the one-room office they shared has now become Radiant Dental and occupies half of the second floor of the Miramont Family Medicine building.

“Something the patients like is that we are not only business partners, but loving partners,” says Dr. Alex. “People feel the energy and they like it; it makes it like a family here.”
