While there’s nothing quite like sleeping in your own bed, there’s also something to be said for living it up a little. When life feels like it’s becoming colorless, which happens to some of us around this time of year, fend off the doldrums with a short stint at the chic, soulful boutique Catbird Hotel.

The off-beat play-and-stay hotel rests at the corner of Walnut and North Marion Streets, tucked inside one of Denver’s most thriving art districts, RiNo. A nod to RiNo's flourishing art scene, this 165-room hotel opened in August 2021 as an independent establishment by Sage Hospitality Group with high-spirited works of art adorning the walls, curated by Nine Dot Arts. Its secret sauce (and motto) is that they make staying at a hotel feel more like home—but even better. Through its creative use of adaptable spaces, like multi-use furniture in the lobby and guest rooms, to its plant rental program, where you can borrow a cute potted plant to enhance your room, thanks to its partnership with local plant boutique ReRoot. You can even borrow a book to curl up with from its library, curated by Tattered Cover Book Store.

The Catbird Playroom offers gear rentals that will leave you torn between wanting to stay and exploring the city through play. From Vespas to bikes and skateboards to musical instruments, cameras and games, one thing is for certain: if you get bored, it’s your own fault.

It’s the perfect place to refresh for a couple of nights as it’s designed to accommodate long-term travelers with rooms featuring hip accommodations and fully-functional kitchens stocked with high-end housewares. There are even coveted all-in-one pans, tea kettles and pre-measured spices. (Insta pots, air fryers. panini presses and Vitamix blenders are also available upon request.) Rooms feature plenty of hooks to toss your gear and jackets and playful, high-rise platform beds with digital projectors.

Chill out on the rooftop deck and admire the panoramic view of Denver’s skyline or kick back and listen to live music, hit the hot tub or play a round on one of its life-sized games. Pop in the lobby for a complimentary happy hour beverage (with or without alcohol) and drop back in the morning for a breakfast entree and a coffee (on the house) after a go in its fitness center on a Peloton or water rower. Grab-and-go kitchen items can keep you satiated until later in the day when you can have a meal at the hotel’s signature rooftop bar and restaurant, The Red Barber.

Close to Denver’s classic attractions, such as Union Station and Coors Field, you can easily get to nearby neighbors to continue your exploration or a lively night out. Make the most of your night by wandering through the neighborhood's vibrant galleries and boutiques. Pet parents are welcome to bring their four-legged friends; there’s even a dog run on the premises.
