When Cedar Hill Preparatory School opened its doors to host the Garden State Debate League March Tournament, the stage was set for an extraordinary day of intellectual competition. What followed was nothing short of remarkable — 140 student competitors from across New Jersey, three rounds of high-stakes debate, and one school that rose above them all.
Cedar Hill Prep students walked away with the tournament's highest win rate — 67%, securing 22 wins out of 33 rounds. But beyond the numbers, what stood out was the quality of the conversation. Students argued complex, real-world topics — from opioid medication policy to cell phone bans in schools — with the kind of clarity and confidence that turns heads in any room.
Three CHP teams earned top-six placements, with Team DKS — Samarth Dakhera, Nehemiah Kim, and Yajur Subramanian — claiming first place. Individual speaker honors went to Shivad Desai, Lily Trotta, Nehemiah Kim, and Samarth Dakhera, each recognized among the tournament's elite performers.
At Cedar Hill Prep, this is what education looks like in action. Students aren't just learning to think — they're learning to lead.
