Celebrate Women’s History Month:

Meaningful Colors & Handmade Jewelry

In researching this uplifting month, I discovered that Women’s History Month is symbolized by three colors: purple, green, and white. Much like gemstones have spiritual traditions attached to them, each of these colors carries a special meaning, all rooted in the women’s suffrage movement:

  • Purple stands for justice and dignity, which we seek for everyone.

  • Green represents hope, which keeps us moving forward.

  • White signifies clarity of mind, which inspires our plans to move us toward our goals.

These symbolic colors are recognized worldwide. Interpreting them through gemstones offers a meaningful way to honor this month-long celebration all year long.  Each color family offers beautiful gemstones that can easily add both meaning and timeless design to your jewelry collection:

  • Purple: Amethyst, charoite, and sugilite are wonderful options. Amethyst, in particular, is known for its calming energy and regal hue. This stone is easy to locate and can be sourced in sizes from tiny to very large.

  • Green: Stones like peridot, emerald, jade, and green tourmaline bring a sense of hope and renewal through their obvious connection to nature and growth. Green onyx is another one I love.

  • White: Moonstone, white opal, and clear quartz offer versatility you can wear every day. Pearls- always one of my favorites!- are cherished for their natural beauty and subtle glow, and can be worn morning ‘til night, work time through date night. Pearls come in different shapes, too, giving us endless design opportunities.

To keep it Handmade, consider adding your favorites to some of these jewelry pieces from my collections:

  • Spring Flowers Earrings and Bracelets: Traditionally made with white topaz, these pieces can be customized with amethyst for a touch of royal purple!

  • Demi-Galaxy Ring: This design can be personalized by substituting peridot or emerald, infusing the ring with the hopeful green of the movement.

  • Crocheted Nest Earrings, Ariadne Bracelets or Necklaces: While our traditional, lustrous white pearls can help you channel clarity, crocheting these designs with clear quartz or green peridot gives them a completely new twist.

Whether you choose a ready-made piece or work with me on a modified or entirely custom design, using these colored gemstones offers a meaningful way to celebrate Women’s History Month, and a perfect reason to buy yourself a well-deserved gift! Each piece is thoughtfully handmade and supports a female artist- me! Celebrate the creativity, strength, and stories of the women who came before us- and those who continue to inspire us today.

It’s Women’s History Month.  Keep calm and wear fabulous jewelry!
