America Celebrates 250!
As America’s Birthday fast approaches, we look back at the 250 years of Architecture that together has provided the foundation for our very lives. We each had a unique experience called childhood and that childhood was fostered in part by the home where you lived. Perhaps there was a porch swing or a long staircase you and your siblings slid down as kids. Maybe your home had a basement, and you built a fort out of old sheets and had sleepovers. Maybe you’re a Floridian and have never seen a basement. Where your home was, determined the type of home you lived in.
Up north a Tri-Level or Split-Level home is commonplace. In the Northeast a 3 Family home is not uncommon. As you head south you will notice more large porches. This was done to shield the home from the southern sun prior to air conditioning. Here in Florida our home styles vary by generation, location and current market trends.
For a Waterfront home the most common style is a Key West. This style will feature similar gable roof lines and porches like that of a farmhouse, however with a tropical twist that is unique to the region. This style offers nice porches and balconies for gulf views and is usually painted in cool ocean tones.
For an Inland home the most common style is a Farmhouse. Whether that be a more Modern Farmhouse with Black, White and Gray being the most common colors. Or a more Craftsman style where we use more earth tones, stone and beams to complete the look.
Another common style here in Florida is the Mediterranean look. This home will be a full hip roof with a stucco façade, and likely some round columns and arched windows. In a more modern look, we substitute the arched windows for large square or rectangular. This style will also feature corbels and brackets to complete the look.
A new and trending style of home is the Modern Transitional. This style will have sharp peaked roofs with the use of stone or brick and less of a porch. Large windows and clean lines complete this look.
No matter the style of home we have you covered. We will happily draft a plan based on your vision, creating a one-of-a-kind home for you!
