Celebrating 50 Years of Community Dedication

Orthopaedic and Spine Center of the Rockies

When a community staple like Orthopaedic and Spine Center of the Rockies hits it's centennial, it's a testament not only to the services they provide but to the love and dedication they have for the people they serve.

Founded in 1969, OCR, formally named Fort Collins Orthopedic Associates, was founded by Drs. Charles Collopy, Robert Johnson, Benedict Magsamen and Douglas Murray. The four physicians had come to Fort Collins separately in the 1960s, and after a few years in practice, they formed a partnership that would build the foundation for OCR.

The doctors were among the first orthopedic specialists in the region and helped pioneer the development of that patient-care specialty. They have 30 specialists providing care across three medical campuses: Fort Collins, Loveland and Greeley. The Orthopaedic and Spine Center of the Rockies provides specialists in the medicine of motion right in our beautiful backyard.

Their founders not only led the development of the orthopedic center and specialty services for patients, but they also contributed to the enhancement of medical care for the region and started what would be a long-lasting partnership with Colorado State University. These pioneers found themselves caring for players in training rooms and on the sidelines—rooting for the green and gold.

Through 50 years and counting of partnerships with CSU and the community at large, OCR's current sports medicine team is made up of four medical experts: Tom Anderson, DO, sports medicine; Stephen Yemm, MD, sports medicine, Alissa Wicklund, Ph.D., sports concussion neuropsychology; Rocci Trumper, MD, knee specialists and sports medicine; and Sean Grey, MD, shoulder specialist and sports medicine.

Combining the founding principles and OCR's new team, we spent a day on the field with CSU alumni and quarterback Mark Driscoll (1971-1975) who's been a patient of Orthopaedic and Spine Center of the Rockies since 1973 when Mark dislocated his shoulder on the field. Since then, he and his family have had nine surgeries at OCR.

"The health and well-being of their student-athletes is the biggest priority and makes the partnership with OCR their most important relationship," explains Joe Parker, director of athletics at Colorado State University. The care and expertise Orthopaedic and Spine Center of the Rockies is committed to providing our community with makes us even more excited for the next 50 years.
