Turkey, family, football… and a 5K? That’s exactly what the Celina community will be doing on Thanksgiving Day at the Celina Turkey Trot presented by Celina Lifestyle! Running a 5K on Thanksgiving Day has become a cherished tradition for many, and, with Run Celina’s second annual Turkey Trot, folks all over Celina and surrounding areas are lacing up their running shoes before indulging in their Thanksgiving meal.
Run Celina Owner and Celina Turkey Trot Race Director, Melissa Gresham, is looking forward to the new route this year. The race will begin and end in downtown Celina. Melissa says, “I love the brick streets and quaint feel of our downtown area. Runners will experience our beautiful streets lined with large sycamores and crepe myrtles that overlap the course and provide an autumn atmosphere. The course takes them to Old Celina Park where they lap the park before heading back to downtown.”
Melissa acknowledges that this race could not take place without the community involvement. Neighbors have volunteered to provide support stations, and there are six fun stations for runners to make memories. The Turkey Trot Sippin’ Spot will have hot apple cider, the Trotographer will provide a picture stop for families, the Gobble ‘n Guzzle Beer Station will have some delicious beer sponsored by Rollertown, The Pie on the Fly will have pumpkin pie sponsored by Legacy Midwives, the Pupkin Pie Pit Stop sponsored by Ron Lyons Real Estate will have a stop for the fur babies, and the Gobble Gulp Water Station will keep our turkeys hydrated.
Melissa expects to see about 1000 runners this year - up from about 800 last year. As Melissa points out, “As more people move to Celina, this race will only grow and become better each year!”
So lace up your running shoes, don your turkey costume, grab your family, and head to the downtown square on Thanksgiving morning for the Celina Turkey Trot presented by Celina Lifestyle!
