The Helping Hand Home was founded in Austin in 1893 and provides a safe haven for children healing from physical, emotional and sexual abuse, neglect, or abandonment. They deliver a continuum of services that include therapeutic residential treatment, education at an on-site charter school, a foster care program, an adoption program and family support programs. This spring they broke ground on a 25,000-square campus expansion that will increase capacity by more than 40 percent and enhance the model of care for children who have never experienced safe home environments.
The annual HHH Crystal Ball Gala (which took place July 10 at Palmer Auditorium) helps fund these efforts. Chaired by Leslie Davenport and Suzanne Nash the event was attended by 1300 people! Prior to the gala there was a fashion show luncheon where debutantes were presented and parents and their adopted children, dressed in clothes bought from Nordstrom, walked the runway, with help from sponsorships by The Baer Family, The Jacob Family, The McKay Family and The Pitts Family. Davenport said, “Helping Hand Home is a wonderful organization advocating for the most vulnerable children in our community. I am grateful we were able to hold the luncheon and gala this year and honor our foster adoption families, our participant families and members who with their time and resources support the Home.”
