Cheers to Apex Aleworks

Apex Aleworks is proud to be Independence, Missouri’s first brewery and taproom. Since opening its doors, the brewery has made a name by standing out among other craft brewers in the Kansas City area with its memorable classic and seasonal beer offerings.

Tim Callahan is the new owner of Apex Aleworks and Apex Brew and BBQ Supply store, located next to the brewery.

“I started home brewing a few years ago and really enjoyed it, which got me to thinking about starting a brew pub when I retired. Fast forward to June of 2019, and circumstances allowed me to pursue that dream in a timelier manner. This is my first foray into the brew business, and I’m looking forward to this new chapter and the opportunities it presents.

“Our founder and previous owner Jeremy Parratt has been in the brewing industry since 2011. Jeremy started an online brew supply store in his basement and transitioned to a brick and mortar store in 2012, which eventually gave birth to Apex Aleworks in October of 2018.”

Watch as they brew your beer in their brewhouse with an open-air viewing space where conversation with customers is always welcomed. If you’ve never been in before, try a flight to find your new favorite. Standout beers include the Cherry Lime Aid Sour, New Independence Pale Ale, Kolsch and Coconut Stout. They we will soon offer a double IPA.

“We have 19 taps of in-house crafted beers, which are rotated on a regular basis. The beers are crafted with the utmost attention to detail and quality to create a product surrounded in excellence and taste. The beer is brewed to style, meaning the beer is brewed as it was historically intended to be depending on the flavor profile of that brew. We offer IPAs, Saisons, Wheats, Sours, Lagers as well as barrel-aged beers. Our beers are unique because we start with some of the best water in the world.”

Enjoy your brew in the taproom’s relaxed, inviting and family-friendly atmosphere. In the supply store, home brewers will find everything needed to brew their own beers, distilled spirits, and wines. BBQ enthusiasts will find grills and smokers along with spices, sauces, seasoned wood, lump charcoal and hardwood pellets for their savory creations.

“In the near future, we will be expanding our days and hours of operations. We’re customer-centric and laid back—it’s a combination of amazing atmosphere, great beer, friendly faces and an extraordinary team. We are incorporating additional food options to our menu and regularly host game and trivia events as well as live music on Saturday nights. 2020 will also see a vinyl record pop-up shop on select Saturdays.”

Come hungry and pair your favorite beverage with one of their four new paninis: the Ernesto Italiano, country chicken and spinach, butcher’s block and turkey bacon pesto, which are all served on artisan French Boule with a side of kettle chips and a pickle spear.

“Looking to the future, we are growing the Apex brand through broader marketing efforts with the goal of offering our beers to other tap rooms, restaurants and bars. Our brewing team is always excited to explore new beer flavor options while keeping an eye on the growing trends in the industry, including a recent partnership with Xtracts of North Kansas City to begin formulating a new line of CBD infused beers. Stay tuned!”
