Emily Crutcher, general manager of Old City Wine Bar, knows how to mix a good cocktail. She spent seven years as a bartender in Knoxville (nearly half of that at Old City) and enjoys crafting new seasonal drinks for patrons to try. Whenever she's crafting a cocktail, Emily starts with the visual.
"I visualize what I want it to look like, and for this one I wanted a deep purple color to showcase the violet flavor," she says.
For October's menu, Emily wanted to create a dark, dramatic drink that captured the aesthetic of the witching hours. She started with dark rum as the base. Then, she added an elderflower liqueur, Creme de Violette and lime juice, then finished it with a splash of bubbly. The result is a sweet and citrusy cocktail perfectly suited for a spooky autumnal night.
