Cheers to the New Year!

Ring in 2022 With this Timeless Classic

The champagne cocktail is said to be one of the oldest cocktails - dating back to 1862, when the recipe appeared in The Bar-Tenders Guide by Jerry Thomas. The champagne cocktail gained popularity during the mid-century and was even Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr’s drink of choice in the classic 1957 film Affair to Remember. It became the star of many cocktail hours and dinner parties thereafter. Instead of ringing in the New Year with a basic glass of bubbly, we suggest reviving the classic champagne cocktail to welcome 2022.

Classic Champagne Cocktail

Ingredients:

Dry Champagne, chilled

Sugar cubes

Angostura bitters

Lemon twist

Cognac, chilled (Optional)

Instructions:

Chill Champagne flutes before serving.

Place a sugar cube in each champagne flute and add three dashes of the Angostura bitters. Let the bitters soak into the cube.

Pour Champagne into the flutes and gently stir with a spoon.

Serve with a thin piece of twisted lemon peel.

Optional: Before adding champagne, add in a teaspoon or two of chilled cognac.
