We spoke with Dr. Beth Flack from Flack Family Chiropractic about why chiropractic care is so important for children. Their office is designed especially for kids and how to make them feel less nervous and more like it’s playtime. In the waiting room there is a playhouse, train station, and coloring station that the kids love! They have two themed rooms for adjustments, The Ocean Room and The Jungle Room. The Ocean Room is painted a fun shade of blue and has an assortment of fish on the walls. The Jungle Room makes your kids feel like they are on an exciting safari!

Why is chiropractic care important for kids? Chiropractic care is important for kids because their nervous system is growing exponentially at this point in their lives. The first 1000 days of life, from conception to age 2,  are a critical window for development.  During this time their brain is making major connections and making sure that their nervous system is functioning at its best at this time will set them up for a lifetime of good health.  Older children are subject to many different things that cause subluxations including trauma of falls and slips, toxins from the food that we eat and the air that we breath, thoughts as in the stress of daily life and technology is very challenging for the nervous system and we have seen such a rise in the use of it.

What ages is chiropractic care suitable for?  Chiropractic care is suitable for babies from birth all the way through 99+!  Research shows that 90% of babies have changes to their spine following 9 months in utero and going through the birth process.   Think about giving birth - the baby is like Ginger Rogers,  Fred Astaire dancing partner.   Ginger has to do everything Fred does except backwards and in heels!

Why did you decide to pursue a career as a chiropractor? During college I popped my neck and couldn't move.  It was finals time and taking muscle relaxers and pain medicine wasn't an option as they would put me to sleep.  I asked to go see a chiropractor instead.  The chiropractor I saw explained to me how much more chiropractic care can do than just get me out of neck pain.  He taught me that it was a way to heal the body from the inside out and I loved that idea.  He recommended that I look at a Chiropractic College in Port Orange, Florida.  I went down for an open house and knew that was what I wanted to do.

What conditions do you treat? We treat subluxations, misalignments of the vertebrae in your spine.  Ailments that I have seen get better because we remove those subluxations through a chiropractic adjustment allowing for the brain and body to communicate better include nursing difficulties, colic, torticollis, bedwetting, constipation, delayed speech, night terrors, pain in the spine, pain in the extremities, headaches, TMJ dysfunction, and the list goes on.

What other services do you offer? We do primitive reflex testing, nutritional counseling, cranial work, organ therapy, as well as manual therapy work including instrument assisted soft tissue massage, cupping, kinesiology taping, corrective exercise, and lymphatic massage. I am also certified in the Webster Technique which helps a pregnant woman's pelvis get into optimal position so that the baby will have the ability to have better positioning for birth.  Currently I am working on a certification class in functional neurodevelopment.

What is the popping sound you hear during adjustments? The popping sound is actually the creation of a gas bubble that is formed when two joint surfaces that are close together are being separated during the adjustment.
