Roasting marshmallows, hot dogs and brats over campfires certainly is fun, but what's the plan for outdoor-driven breakfasts or snack times? Create toasty cinnamon rolls by wrapping them around skewers and warming over a cozy fire. Then, simply brush the roll spirals with butter, and sprinkle with sugar and spice or something else nice.
A bonus of this recipe is not having to invest much clean-up time, not even utensils, if done carefully and eaten creatively This recipe also doubles for an easy campfire treat.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 4
Tip: If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 5 minutes, then towel dry before using.
INGREDIENTS
1 tube refrigerated crescent rolls (12.4 ounces), with or without commercial icing
1 tablespoon cinnamon
¼ cup sugar
¼ cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Water
Wooden skewers, marshmallow sticks or metal skewers
DIRECTIONS
- Mix cinnamon and sugar on a plate.
- Split crescent dough and wrap each one around its own skewer. Dough can be cut in half if smaller rolls are desired. It helps to roll dough into 6-inch ropes. Wrap each rope tightly around a long wooden or metal skewer (or stick), beginning one-half inch from pointed end; pinch each end to secure.
- Brush wrapped skewer with butter and roll in cinnamon sugar mix.
- Cook each skewer over campfire for approximately 5 minutes, until golden brown, rotating like a marshmallow.
- Create powdered sugar glaze by combining ¼ cup powdered sugar, and 3 tablespoon water, then drizzle over cooked spirals.
Note: If crescent tube comes with ready-made icing, remove and transfer to a resealable plastic bag for drizzling. Cut or rip a small hole in one corner of icing bag; stream icing over spirals.
