Quality, delectable food served via innovative approaches to create memorable client experiences have been mainstays of John Serock Catering since its inception 20 years ago. However, while this West Chester-based catering team says they've always enjoyed being part of clients' special occasions, they now are even more appreciative of those who've endured with them the challenging pandemic period presented by the past 20 months.
"We've had some couples who've had to change their wedding dates four or five times, but they stuck with us and we with them," says John Serock, president of the catering company. "We pride ourselves in creating events that match our clients' visions, personalities and styles, and our goal remains to cater to them in exceptional ways."
In fact, Serock Catering is listed as a preferred caterer at unique locations throughout the Delaware Valley, including historical mansions and farms in Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Bucks Counties.
"We're often told we're the caterer of choice for brides and meeting planners throughout the Philadelphia area," John smiles.
A year ago, he revamped the catering menu to accommodate smaller gatherings of six to eight people, and also offered a holiday special with turkey and fixings geared for one or two persons so people could pick up and deliver meals to relatives and friends in lieu of being in-person. This year, he plans to offer a limited Thanksgiving menu for larger groups to be picked up the day before the holiday.
Heading into this year's autumn and winter, John says comfort foods are in demand. "Mac and cheese pops, and Philly Cheesesteak eggrolls, are very popular," he adds.
This Thanksgiving season, John says he's fortunate for the health and well-being of his family, but he's also extremely grateful for the commitment and work ethic shown by the company's catering staff. "We were in the public during this pandemic, and it does make us a bit nervous. But we had safety protocols in place and we didn't let our guards down. The Serock team knew a topnotch job still needed to be done, and they showed up to do it. For that, I'm truly thankful and I celebrate and toast them," he adds.
John understands firsthand how important family and work-family ties are, given that he got introduced to the catering business when he was only 12 years old, working as a dishwasher for his grandmother, who was a cook and banquet manager.
