Your chamber? Charged up with double-base powder and #7-1/2 lead.
Your barrel? Trained squarely downrange, bead waiting to overlap saucer.
Your focus? Perfectly attuned to the task at hand, which is clobbering said saucer into a constellation of potsherds.
It is the moment. You utter the word with the cool collectedness one can’t help but feel as one cradles the twelve.
“PULL”
Thwap! A little orange disk bursts out of the trap house and whizzes away at an angle, though its flightiness is little match for your eagle eye, catlike reflexes, and literal ape finger. You nearly instantly unleash a supersonic volley of heavy metal poppy seeds that race downrange until totally obliterating everything clay in their way.
Pop! The disk is donezo. You point your muzzle safely at the ground before turning to regard your pals. “Not bad for my very first time, huh?” you ask them. Indeed it isn’t, they agree. Good shot!
The thrill of trap shooting: available to all at the Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club this August 6th from noon until 3:30pm.
“Every event we host is an opportunity for our members to network and bond,” said Karen Brettingen for the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce. “Our fifth annual Clay Target Classic, featuring a sport that has an uncanny ability to bring people closer together, will be no exception.
“To be sure, everyone is welcome to come and shoot trap with us: seasoned gunners and first-timers alike. You couldn’t ask for a nicer place to enjoy a little friendly competition in. The Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club looks like it was pulled straight out of a Romantic period masterpiece. You don’t need to bring your own equipment. Gun rental is only $20, and 25-round boxes of shotshells are $13 apiece. If you’ve never fired a shotgun before, then no worries! Volunteers from SCHEELS will be there to share important safety and marksmanship tips, as well as keep score. Women-only teams are available to anyone who would like to join one. And when I said ‘friendly competition,’ I really meant it. It’s a totally chill and laid-back atmosphere.
“We’re grateful to all of our sponsors for helping to make this special event a success, and for donating the prizes for our big raffle. We will give away one or two sets of state-of-the-art SoundGear hearing protection by Starkey; gift cards from SCHEELS; Federal Premium ammunition (which I have been informed is the very best ammunition of all, because it is made in Minnesota); and multiple memberships to onX.
The Clay Target Classic will be held at 2920 220th Street E, Prior Lake on Thursday, August 6th. The venue opens for registration and check-in at noon; lunch, 12:30pm; announcements and instructions, 1pm; go time, 1:30 to 3pm; happy hour and raffle drawings to follow. Registration costs $95 per single shooter or $380 per foursome, and includes lunch, 50 targets, and one drink ticket per person. Raffle tickets will be for sale, as well as awarded to shooters who prove themselves to be top shots (or are lucky enough to be selected at random).
Spots are limited! Sign up today at EPChamber.org or else other people will be having fun while you aren’t.
We've been involved with the Clay Target Classic since the beginning, and look forward to it every year as an opportunity not only to invite clients out for the afternoon, but also to connect and network with a group of people that I typically don’t see at other chamber events. Lunch is fantastic, the Horse and Hunt Club always delivers with a variety of courses that challenge everyone, and the prize raffle at the end is a highlight. I highly recommend this event to anyone, even if you've never shot before. You'll have a great time with a relaxed and fun group of people. – Aaron Nicklay
