While our chances of getting on that show are slim - luckily there’s a resource right here in South Orange County. Meet Liz Wann, founder of Coastal Organizing Company and lover of all things organized, efficient and beautiful.

Liz has loved organizing for as long as she can remember and envisions the possibilities of any space. The San Juan Capistrano wife and mom has a MA in Organizational Leadership and says organizing isn’t just a skill, it’s her passion.

Coastal Organizing Company formed two years ago with specialties in-home organizing, moves/relocations, and office organizing. Their aim to simplify the organization process and provide tools so spaces stay organized long-term.

Wann and her expert team of professional organizers follow a five-step process that includes:

1.     Removing items from space

2.     Categorize items

3.     Purge and donate

4.     Create a functional system

5.     Label and transform the space!

Do you have a favorite room to organize?

My favorite space to organize is the pantry. Since it is accessed so many times a day, it is so important to have the right system in place. I love being able to get creative with how the space is laid out to fit our clients' needs and all of their items, and with the right containers a pantry can be such a beautiful space! 

Has the pandemic had an effect on your business as people have spent more time at home (living and working)?

We were busy before the shut down last March and I was anticipating a slower season once we were allowed to go back to work. However, as soon as we reopened, our calendar quickly booked up three months in advance. Home is more important than ever before and creating a peaceful environment is a priority for people now. Living and working in a disorganized home can create so much stress. We love that we can provide a service that can help our clients take control of their homes and their items. It has such a positive impact on not only the physical space but also their emotional headspace. During a pandemic, we could all use some inner peace! 

How involved are your clients in the organization process?

The beauty about what we do is that we only need our clients during the purging process and to approve the placement of their items. The majority of our clients only help with those two steps and let us take care of the rest for them. We are always happy to include our clients during all five steps if they want to be involved!

Are there unexpected benefits to having organized spaces? 

There are so many benefits to having an organized home. Think about how much time you spend looking for misplaced items in your home or how many times you bought something you already had. When you're organized you will save so much time and money because you will know where everything is! There is also an emotional benefit to getting organized. External chaos can easily create internal stress and anxiety. So many of our clients say how much better they feel after going through our process and that it has such a big impact on their daily life. 

Does professional organizing last over time?

I get asked all of the time if the systems we put in place actually work and if our clients' spaces stay organized long term. The answer is yes! When you have the right system in place it is so easy to stay organized. We have been back to clients' homes months after we organized one of their spaces and it's so incredible to see how well they have maintained it.
