Coming together to benefit all individuals

Developing Potential, Inc. meets needs during a challenging year

Individuals with developmental disabilities have been especially impacted by pandemic-related shutdowns as they have experienced interruptions in services, but Developing Potential, Inc. is moving forward in its commitment to serve these individuals.

DPI was closed to in-person services from mid-March to mid-June, and now about half of the individuals it serves have returned for in-person services with the other half receiving online or socially distanced services.

Overall, DPI faced a significant shortfall in funds this year, but plans are in place to help meet this need.

Instead of hosting its traditional in-person gala, DPI is having a virtual gala on Saturday, November 7 with a “Wish You Were Here” theme. The event will feature an online auction, wine pull, “selfie station” and more. DPI will present awards to individuals it serves for their outstanding accomplishments during the year as well as to members of the community for their support during the year.

“We are trying to capture some fun and make up some revenue losses for essential services,” says Amy Cox, director of development. “It’s exciting, but it’s a challenge to do fundraising virtually instead of getting people excited in the moment.”

Cox says they were not able to have their other usual annual fundraisers, including an event at Top Golf.

Despite it all, DPI was fortunate to complete the second phase of its capital campaign for the new facility it has been planning, yet funds are essential for day-to-day operations.

There are opportunities to get involved and help prepare for the virtual gala, and donations are always welcome. For details, contact Amy Cox at acox@developingpotential.org or 816.525.6000 ext. 107. Donations can be made online at DevelopingPotential.org, and you can follow them on social media @DPIKansasCity.
