Murfreesboro Family Medicine Offers Comprehensive Health Care For Every Stage Of Life

Top-rated family health care is available locally to support wellness journeys of all sorts.

"Our mission is to provide compassionate, comprehensive care to individuals and families throughout Murfreesboro," assures Christopher Housden, DO, founder of Murfreesboro Family Medicine. "We believe in a patient-centered approach to health care that focuses on respect, understanding and quality. Whether it’s a wellness visit, a specialized treatment, ongoing care or vaccinations, our team is dedicated to making every patient feel heard and valued."

This medical team at 2933 Medical Center Parkway assists the full spectrum of patients: infants, children, teens, adults and seniors. The office was opened during November 2024.

As a Middle Tennessee native, Dr. Housden represents a unique combination of medical expertise and local dedication to Murfreesboro Family Medicine by offering compassionate medical care that reflects his lifelong commitment to the community. He received his medical degree from University of Pikeville Kentucky. He completed a residency through University of Tennessee Nashville via St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. With a strong foundation in osteopathic medicine, he focuses on providing high-quality care to each patient, "ensuring their health and well-being are prioritized at every stage."

Osteopathic medicine is a "whole person" approach to health care, which is designed to treat the entire patient, not just one's symptoms. This form of medicine is based on the philosophy that the body can heal itself and emphasizes the interconnectedness of the body, mind and spirit. The field of osteopathic medicine was established during 1874 in Kirksville, Missouri, by Andrew Taylor Still, MD. DOs are trained in the same way as MDs, and can diagnose and treat ailments, perform surgery and prescribe drugs. However, DOs get extra training in manipulating the musculoskeletal system as the body's interconnected system of nerves, muscles and bones. DOs often include evaluating patients' activity levels, food consumption, physical and mental health, stress levels and sleep habits to determine the root causes of symptoms and  to promote better overall health.

Joining Dr. Housden are family nurse practitioners Alana Moore and Katrina Miller, along with physician assistant Desirae Twilla. They focus on providing preventive care, women's health, mental health support, acute care visits and chronic disease management. Office manager and Xray technician Shannon Alvey says they also have on-site Xray and lab services. Rounding out the rest of this team are Rachael Solis, medical assistant for Alana; Susan Sinclair, medical assistant for Katrina; Kandy Cone, medical assistant for Dr. Housden; Shannon Garrett, referral coordinator; and Hannah Rallo, front desk receptionist. A red merle Australian Shepherd, Dixie, is the office dog, too.
