After a stint of dream chasing and self-discovery in New York City, Mireille Beckwith of City Peach moved back to the Peach City for her biggest adventure yet—motherhood.
"I didn't lose my identity when I became a mother," explains Mireille. "I gained a new one."
Since then, she has built a brand around her fashion-forward, family-first lifestyle. Her fashion background and immense love for her people are the pillars on which she built City Peach, her social media and blog persona. But before designer round-ups, clothing hauls, followers and outfit transformations, Mireille was a girl striving to stand out in the flashy world of early 2000s fashion.
With a career plan to end up somewhere "among the clothes," she took her first gig as a sales associate at Abercrombie and Fitch during its heyday. Shortly after, her relentless pursuit brought her to New York City, the birthplace of her blog. The name transpired naturally. She was a Georgia Peach living in the Big City—City Peach it was.
Today, her style merges the bold, daring and sometimes outlandish looks of New York City's streets and catwalks with the sweet subtleties of life in the South and adds a touch of practicality only a mother could understand.
Years of shopping, noting runway trends and studying street style worldwide led her to discover fashion leaves no one out. She uses her influence to keep fellow moms in the know while offering styling tips for all lifestyles and budgets.
As we prep our closets for 2024, Mireille is clear some trends are here to stay while others are better off purging. According to her, the pinks, frills and flats of "ballet core," an elegant genre of fashion that burst onto the scene this year, aren't going anywhere. She emphasizes pink, not simply for its femininity but because it's naturally eye-catching. "It looks good on everyone," she promises.
On the other end of the spectrum, and one of her favorites as a comfort enthusiast, is the oversized slouchy look that's becoming increasingly timeless—baggy jeans, tennis shoes, and comfy crews, to name a few. Just be sure to cinch a part of yourself (roll your sleeves, belt your waist or roll your pants) for a slimming, elevated look. A white button-down Oxford shirt is your best friend for those looking to bring the look into a formal setting. It keeps things comfy and oversized while pairing perfectly with slacks, skirts and vests.
Regardless of style preference, Mireille stresses that comfortability is key without sacrificing things you love. "You'll never feel confident if you aren't comfortable," she says.
Since becoming a mom, her style has veered toward striking a balance of fashion and function. She's made sacrifices like trading heels for flats and mini skirts for maxis, but she stays true to the designers, prints and accessories she views as pieces of herself. After all, the pieces we adorn ourselves with are direct reflections of us.
"'Our sense of style is personal and something all our own, with pieces of where we've been, who we aspire to be, and what we love before anyone tells us otherwise. Leaning into your style and finding items that bring joy builds confidence, contributing to mental health," says Mireille.
