My Most Worn Accessory Isn’t in My Closet

“Elongate your spine, lift your chest, and hold yourself” are some of the corrections I listen to on a daily basis. As a professional ballet dancer, posture – or alignment – is at the center of everything we do. It’s the foundation of preventing injuries, building core stability, and finding balance. Better said: it’s a tool to balance strength and elegance.

But beyond my work in the studio and on stage, I’ve come to realize that good posture is much more than a simple correction.

Posture doesn’t just belong to the stage. It is a performer’s necessity to style. Correct posture has shaped the way I move and present myself to the world. It has shaped the way I walk, talk, and act. Part of that comes from one of my former ballet teachers who repeatedly said, “stand tall, I want to recognize a ballet dancer on the street when I see one!”. But jokes aside, discovering the power of my posture helped me realize that no jewelry, outfit, handbag, or heels would shape my style. It was confidence, carried through posture.

Fashion trends in 2026 have become micro-trends. They come and go with extraordinary speed and often change aesthetics. Consider this: before you notice what someone is wearing, don’t you first notice how someone is wearing it? Think about it. The human mind perceives body language before anything else: good posture equals a confident and approachable outlook. A luxurious outfit can lose its impact when it’s presented on slouched shoulders. This is called the “Hanger Effect”.

Posture is the non-verbal presence that won’t fade away with other trends.

Ballet has taught me that elegance does not come from perfection. It comes from awareness. Every step I execute has meaning behind it, along with technical precision. I don’t simply move. My job is to create a story through movement and therefore, the way I present myself must be held at the highest impressionable level. There is meticulousness in every detail, from the placement of my fingers to the positioning of my head. The same principle applies outside of the studio. I find that the way ballet dancers present themselves to society not only transforms their wardrobe, but it gives them the freedom to let their personality shine through their attire.

What I really want to say is that unlike seasonal trends, which come and go, or the clothing we wear on a day-to-day basis, confidence becomes a part of who we are. It doesn’t have any requirements. No particular definition of beauty is necessary to have it. No wardrobe limitations, age - nothing. Absolutely no limits.

All it requires is the decision to stand tall.

To make yourself noticeable. To take up space, and to recognize the value in your presence.

In ballet, sometimes the most unsuspecting dancer is the one that steals the show. The captivating moments are the most silent ones – a dancer standing tall and proud before they begin their piece; a deliberate breath before they begin moving; the story they’re telling on stage. Elegance comes from intention, and confidence works in the same way. It’s never about being the loudest one in the room, but rather about embracing who you are.

So today, before you step out the door, look at your outfit. Analyze it. Whether it be a stunning dress or baggy sweatpants; have you added the most important accessory to your outfit?

It may not be something hanging in your closet or placed in your jewelry box, but it will be something that everyone notices about you: your confidence. Wear it with power. Let it mold the way you move, make eye contact with strangers, and change the way you react to silly mishaps during your day.

After all, the most timeless pieces of clothing aren’t the ones I put on. From my perspective, it’s the confidence I carry with me. It’s the accessory that will never go out of style, the posture I have practiced, and the grace that has become my most-worn accessory.
