Convenient and Healthy Meals in Lee's Summit

Nutrition for an Active Lifestyle is Now Available for Pick-up

Preparing healthy meals is often time consuming, especially when juggling work and family responsibilities. When you add athletic endeavors into the mix, there is even less time to prepare such meals and all the more need to fuel the body properly.

The owners of Neighborhood Café have now developed Neighborhood Fit, a meal solution business that aims to solve this problem by delivering nutritious meals of your choice to various locations around Lee’s Summit.

“It’s a convenient option for anyone who has a fitness goal or for people who don’t have the time to eat healthy while on the go,” says owner Tony Olson.

In a few simple steps, you can also begin enjoying these well-balanced meals, and here’s how:

  • Choose meals based off preferences and specific nutritional needs.

Go to Neighborhood Fit and select the meals you wish to purchase. The meals are grouped into three categories based on nutritional content—keto, performance, and recovery. Keto meals are low-carbohydrate or no-carbohydrate options designed to be consumed before workouts. Performance meals are medium-carbohydrate and high-protein meals, and recovery meals are higher carbohydrate foods designed to replenish after a workout.

“Our philosophy is based on moderation,” Tony says. “When you eliminate something completely, it’s actually bad for you in the long run.”

The company offers a variety of options, with breakfast items including an egg white scramble and turkey bacon sandwich. Lunch and dinner options include cashew chicken with green veggies and a zucchini enchilada dish. There are protein balls for snacks and cold items such as a chicken pasta salad and a southwest shrimp bowl for those who might not have access to a microwave during the day. Olson says their most popular requests include their pulled pork sandwiches.

The company automatically sends a calculation of all the nutritional content in your order when you purchase meals. For no additional cost, nutritionist Devin Byrd is happy to answer questions and discuss the science of the meals and how they might fit into your diet. If one has more in-depth nutritional and dietary planning questions, Devin can provide such insight and meal planning for a cost.

  • Order meals and choose pick-up location.

Meal orders must be placed by midnight on Wednesdays for pick-up the following week. Pick-up days are Mondays and Thursdays at various locations around the city including Neighborhood Café, Blush Bootcamp, Genesis on Oldham Parkway and Shredd KC LS.

Olson says the purpose of having two different pick-up days during the week is to ensure maximum freshness, although customers can choose just one pick-up day a week if they so desire. All the meals are prepared at the Neighborhood Café kitchen in Waldo and are then distributed out to the pick-up locations.

  • Pick up the meals at the location.

Finally, you will receive an email when the meals have been placed in the refrigerator at your designated pick-up location, and then it’s time to pick them up, microwave and enjoy.

“We wanted to create something that is almost a partner with you,” Olson says.

In the future, Olson says they hope to increase the number of pick-up locations they have and rotate menu options more frequently. They are also beginning a subscription service that will automatically order a customer’s requested meals for them each week.
