A Survival Guide for Staying Cool this Summer in Conroe

Last summer was the hottest the Houston area has ever seen, with July 2022 being the steamiest weather on record, according to the National Weather Service's Houston-Galveston office. So when temperatures hit the triple digits, avoid the heat stroke and try these fun summer activities for your kids and those still kids at heart.

Time to Spare Entertainment, located at 10357 TX-Highway 105 East, has most anything one would want under one roof. They have a state-of-the-art bowling alley with 36 lanes, automatic scoring systems, bumpers for children, an arcade, darts, pool tables, axe throwing, and a virtual reality escape room.

The axe-throwing is a unique activity one doesn't just find anywhere. Nothing beats the adrenaline rush you feel when joining your friends with some competitive axe throwing.

Their kitchen offers a variety of dishes like pizza, burgers, fries, popcorn, and for adult beverages, they have bartenders ready to serve. TimeToSpareBowling.com

Conroe Incredible Pizza allows for cool, fun, and good food in Conroe for over 18 years. With its 1950's themed atmosphere, it is one of the best places to beat the summer heat and to ride go-karts and bumper cars, play laser tag, mini golf, mini bowling, and its Hologate Virtual Reality experiences are one of the best in our area.

Incredible Pizza boasts a loaded buffet of various pizzas, pasta, salads, and desserts that your family will enjoy, said Kim Valadez, Director of Sales and Marketing since 2006.

"Summer fun includes special events like a visit from Orbit with the Houston Astros, a day visit with Ghostbusters, Mondays are Kids Day featuring a special offer for kids, buffet, drinks, one-hour of unlimited video game play, and a special craft, for just $15, Valadez said.

"I love seeing our guests having fun," Valadez said. "And to see the surprise on their faces when they realize just how big we are and how much fun they're having," she said. Follow them on Facebook or IPCConroe.com.

Bill and Bethany Lainhart are owners of Shankz Mini Golf and VR at 3091 College Park Drive, Suite 270, in Conroe, which is known for its black light mini golf and light-up golf balls, virtual reality games, and arcade.

"People come here to play because it's too hot, too cold, or it's raining outside," Bill Lainhart said of the family-owned/operated venue. "Anyone can do putt-putt while spending time with their family."

What is interesting about his black light mini golf is he is pretty certain that his place is one of the only in the country which uses light-up golf balls.

It's usually very low-key, but Lainhart recommends you pre-book tee times online before arriving to shorten your wait time, or "it could be two hours or more wait time," he said. Follow their Facebook page, Shankz Mini Golf and VR, or go to ShankzGolf.com.

Zero Latency Houston/The Woodlands, located in Oak Ridge North, is a free-roam Virtual Reality Arena where players can traverse freely in other worlds without any inhibiting wires.

"Players encounter impossible worlds, hostile robots, zombies, pirates, and more in a venue that is unique in our area," said Milam Walters, co-owner. Their venue opened in February 2023.

"We opened our location in The Woodlands because it's such a vibrant and upcoming community. Everyone here has been very welcoming, including the Conroe Chamber of Commerce and the City of Oak Ridge North," said owner Chalayne Walters.

Walters said their facility is great for team-building events, parties, date nights, or just those seeking a unique experience this hot summer. ZLHouston.com
