Country Music and Healthy Living

Meet Texas Country Artist Sandee June

Country artist Sandee June is a lifelong Texan, music lover and health enthusiast. She grew up in Santa Fe, Texas, where she raised her own family and still lives today. A registered nurse for 26 years, June traded her stethoscope for a guitar when she turned 50.

“I decided it was time to do something for myself. My children were grown and gone and working on giving me lots of grandchildren. So, I bought a guitar and learned to play. Shortly after, I started going to open mic nights,” said June.

She kickstarted her music career during COVID and to date has released five songs, all of which have climbed to the Top 40 of the Texas Country Music Chart. Her soothing tone reminds us of
classic country icon Patsy Cline, and it’s also easy to recognize the influences of Loretta Lynn, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt and Cat Stevens. “Listening to such a diverse group of amazing musicians growing up really impacted my ability to cross over and sing classic country and classic rock. This music was embedded in every fiber
of my DNA. It really did help create my sound,” she added.

Also embedded in her DNA is a passion for health and wellness.
“I think it truly is a quality for me that is innate. My Dad was big about taking care of the body God gave us. Every day I try to walk 1 to 2 miles and do yoga or Pilates. I fast 16-18 hours by not eating
after 6pm and drink 1-2 cups of green tea daily – and I try to eat a colorful, whole foods diet while getting eight hours of sleep every night,” she added. She also makes sure she has everything prepared the day before a show – from the set list to her clothing – because taking care of one’s mental health is just as important.

“I like to pray and meditate, preferably outdoors, and be grounded barefoot in the grass because it helps me calm any anxious or nervous feelings,” she added. June encourages anyone who wants to adopt a healthy lifestyle to start with one small change at a time and remember, “Hydration, whole foods and movement are most important to maintain a healthy body.”
