Since 2016, Cōpare Health has been a nutrition-based weight loss company. Dr. Kim Spivack, one of the managers at their Potomac location, has a Ph.D. in education and an undergraduate degree in exercise science, called Kinesiology. Spivack also holds certifications in nutrition, sports nutrition, gut health and is a Board-Certified Health Coach and certified personal trainer. Serena Treworgy is another manager who is a weight loss specialist and former personal trainer. They partner with physicians who specialize in obesity medicine as well as nurse practitioners specializing in gut health.
Cōpare partners with a physician group that specializes in obesity. In 2022, the FDA approved some GLP-1 medications for weight loss. One is Ozempic (semaglutide) and the other is Monjuro (tricepitide.) If needed, there is a Cōpare Plus + Rx program where doctors oversee the medicine and Cōpare staff does the nutrition coaching.
How Cōpare Works
Cōpare is all about nutrition, helping people reach their goals. Many have weight goals; some clients just want to learn about healthy eating.
Weekly, you meet with your health advisor for a coaching session to devise a meal plan. Cōpare has their own high protein, low sugar, foods or you can utilize your own with guidance from your coach. Eating the right foods, in the right quantity, is the key but many don't think about that because they're juggling their kids, job responsibilities, and other things in their life. For most, what they eat and when they eat, isn't really a priority in their mind. Cōpare coaches help you refocus on your day, on your health, and design a schedule for you.
This sounds elementary, but you'd be surprised. People forget to eat. They eat at night. They don't have groceries at home. They eat out all the time. Coaches help you refocus on what's important for you to reach your goal. They'll discuss what foods you like and provide you with recipes and other ideas. If you do eat out on occasion, they'll give you guidance on making healthy choices.
Another thing besides food is understanding your body composition. They have a scale in the office but it does much more than just weight. It analyzes everything from your fat, to your muscle, to your water, even down to your visceral fat. That's the more dangerous fat that many people carry in their midsection.
Local or Remote
You get a body printout every week from this sophisticated body composition scale to track your progress. Cōpare has clients all over the country; they have a robust virtual program that includes sending you a scale. Coaching sessions are on zoom so they can work with anyone, anywhere. They will bend over backwards to accommodate your schedule.
Health Advice for Life
When you reach your goal and graduate from the Cōpare program you don't get a cap and gown but they will help you transition to all of your own foods again. Their Maintenance Program for life is free!
