With extensive hands-on experience in the pool industry, Scott McFarland recognized in 1999 that local pool owners needed more than basic service. His deep knowledge of pool chemistry, proper cleaning methods, equipment, and hydraulics—paired with a commitment to outstanding customer service—became the foundation for a higher standard of pool care.
As Scott’s industry expertise continued to grow, he took the next step in 2004 by building his first pool. What began as a natural progression of hands-on experience has since evolved into Blue Water Pools, a company now recognized for designing and constructing luxury custom pools and outdoor living spaces, while also delivering exceptional customer service through professional pool service and maintenance.
“Everything we do is customer-focused,” says Scott. “We want to make sure the customer has a fantastic experience. We’re not looking for a customer now—we’re looking for a customer for life.”
One of the elements that truly sets Blue Water Pools apart is the collective 80-plus years of experience shared by Scott, construction manager Mike Hammonds, and Chris Brabson, Residential and Commercial Designer and Sales and Marketing Manager. “We know what works and what doesn’t based on what we’ve seen through the many thousands of projects we’ve built throughout our careers,” explains Chris. “We are an established business that uses high-end materials and delivers high-quality construction. Just as importantly, we listen to our clients and provide white-glove, concierge-level service throughout the entire process.”
Blue Water Pools specializes in one-of-a-kind custom designs tailored to each client’s needs and lifestyle. In addition to creating outdoor living spaces from the ground up, the team also remodels existing environments that have deteriorated over time or reimagines them with new features to enhance functionality and enjoyment.
Clients are invited to explore possibilities at one of the largest design centers in North Texas, featuring a curated selection of high-end materials. “Our clients are creating a natural extension of their home—spaces meant to enhance everyday living,” says Chris. “They encourage connection with friends and family while also offering a private retreat. During the design process, we listen closely to what the client wants, how they plan to use their backyard, what their hobbies are, and whether they envision intimate relaxation or large gatherings.” Those insights are then translated into a fully personalized design unique to each home.
For more than 25 years, Blue Water Pools has been family-owned and operated and has transformed backyards into fully customized outdoor living environments, incorporating pools, spas, outdoor kitchens, play areas, and even putting greens. Popular features include water elements that create soothing ambient sound, along with covered seating areas designed for year-round enjoyment.
One standout project in Southlake exemplifies the ultimate luxury outdoor living experience, blending relaxation and entertainment into a single, breathtaking environment with nearly every imaginable feature.
“It’s the most phenomenal project I’ve ever seen,” says Chris. “The space was designed for entertaining, featuring an expansive outdoor kitchen and bar, along with a dramatic cave that houses a spa, in-water dining and seating areas, a built-in kitchen, and multiple televisions. Above the cave is a fire pit with additional seating, as well as a slide that leads directly into the pool. Walking out of the master suite, there’s a private spa that spills into a river flowing into the first pool, then cascading into a second pool. It’s truly incredible.”
With extensive experience building in North Texas, the Blue Water team understands the unique challenges involved in constructing and maintaining outdoor living spaces in the region. “If you’re investing a significant amount of money in your home, you want it to last,” says Scott. “That requires knowledge not just of local climate conditions, but also of what lies beneath the surface. Understanding soil composition, hydraulics, clay, and rock conditions is critical to long-term performance.”
Among the most common construction challenges the team encounters are significant changes in yard elevation and complex sub-level soil conditions. “Elevation changes can be addressed through thoughtful engineering and retaining walls to ensure both beauty and safety,” says Chris. “In North Texas, we also frequently deal with expansive soils like clay and caliche. We know where those conditions exist and how to mitigate the risks they pose to structural integrity over time.”
Once a project is complete, Blue Water Pools continues to support homeowners through professional pool service and maintenance, enhanced by state-of-the-art computerized water testing for precise and consistent results. Service customers also have access to a secure online portal that provides real-time insight into their pool, including water test results, service history, technician notes, photos, and route progress—offering full transparency and peace of mind.
“A luxury outdoor space is about far more than aesthetics,” says Scott. “It’s about intention, craftsmanship, and trusting the right team to ensure the entire experience is seamless, enjoyable, and ultimately deeply rewarding.”
